I have tried to find information on how to sell fish in Arkansas, but all I can find are rules and regulations for fish farms. I am just trying to sell enough to counter balance expenses of running an Aquaponic System. Does anyone know if selling fish in Arkansas is legal for a simple backyard set up?

Looks like someone already did some of the leg work for you - https://www.uaex.edu/publications/pdf/FSA-9622.pdf

I don't know about Arkansas but I doubt you could even give them away in Oregon without a permit of some sort.

Thanks Scotty. That was exactly what I needed to see. All the information I found so far says it would cost hundreds of dollars just to get started. Well. I'm halfway there. Time to get licensed and permitted!

Is this a fish farm or just your backyard ap system? Can't you just advertise on you're equivalent of gumtree as a private seller ie not commercial. :)

It varies from state to state. You'd need a permit just to transport the fish here in Oregon.

It's a backyard system with about 50 Tilapia at market size. I currently have One brood stock of about 50 and two more batches of fry almost 30 days old. If I have to and it looks like it, I will try to get permits for next spring so I can sell fingerlings and market size fish.

Sorry I was a little cryptic in my response. In Australia while there is regulation on just about every other part of the industry the hobby fish keepers, with aquariums seem to be left alone ie you can buy and sell fish providing you are not doing it as a business or if you can't they seem to ignore it. :)

Ye Sleepe. Here it seems they don't care about ornamental fish, but if they are going to be eaten they start to regulate. I need to talk with some fish and game people and maybe find out if it's even possible to run a fish farm from my house.

I purchased fish from "like-minded" individuals on craigslist. You have to be smart, crazy stuff has happened on that site. One has to ask is selling a few fish worth the hassle?

Between state and fed law, you probably would be breaking the law. Unlicensed this, no permit for that....

best to lay low with ad words. How about " Free to good home, donation not included"

I was thinking of doing the same, but what a pain dealing with the Crazies here on the left coast.
