Howdy! Last night I was watching Rob Bob's backup video and he got me thinking. We just lost an APC SURTA 3000 backup system at the shop, but the batteries are good. I'd like to make a backup system, but I have the understanding that these batteries are 192V. How would one wire these? Which components would I need? I found a photo of the old SRT3000 here: http://store.sysparksecuador.com.ec/tie ... &id_lang=1

Hi Mwdesign,

There's no need to spend that sort of money on a SRT3000, you can build a very simple backup system quite cheaply.

Read through these posts.

192 volts is a strange voltage, if they are 12 volt batteries, then there should be 16 x batteries in total and wired in series that will give you 192 volts.

Or 8 x 24 volts batteries wired in series would do the same.

That explains it. Someone had told me that the battery packs had 16 batteries total.

Ok I just got a call from Herman the Power Place guy (Awesome service, if anyone needs APC products in Puerto Rico). He said indeed each of the 2 battery packs has (8) 5amp, 12V batteries. So I can take the packs apart and wire them in parallel like Rob Bob did and have 80 amp hours, am I right? Anyway I'll check out the link.

Thanks!
Felix

Wired in parallel should give 80 amp hours, I thought you were looking for a total 192 volts :?
