What do you think about exploring ways of getting an active and effective seed exchange going?
I'd like the idea of having a seed exchange - but in the past have found them to not work well! 12%  12%  [ 10 ]
I think its a great thing to have running - let's do it! 88%  88%  [ 74 ]
Nah - I think they suck. We are better off just buying/saving our seed individually! 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

I can look at building a site for this if it helps. (if it can be done)

I am thinking of a site where you put in offers and requests.

The receiver pays nominal postage through paypal to get the seeds, and a tally of those that have given and received can be made so you can decide on whether to send them to those that have not given(?)

It could be similar to an ebay type of site where you can post requests or offers at any time.

Also, a part of the site where you can sell seeds for those that are harder to find or rarer.

What do you think?

Any other suggestions/criticisms of this course of action?

I think there is already a seed savers network in Perth so it would be re-inventing the wheel to some extent for this location. And sending seeds interstate to WA attracts quarantine inspection/charges.

I think the site idea is good, though would take a bit of maintenance.

I was thinking something a little less complicated (I cannot seem to work out how to find the seeds.), and something that everyone can contribute to/receive seeds from. It would also be immediate postings.

But you are right, it may be a PITA to administer.

Just a thread where you can post what seeds you have and a price if you're selling, or a barter exchange details if you're not, and then just PM to sell or trade.

You could make a public 'google doc' i.e. a spreadsheet.
kind of like this
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... _web#gid=0

but does need maintenance

I'm in for this if it goes ahead. I have heaps of seeds, but need to buy some for the plants I don't have in, so being able to swap for something someone else has surplus of makes sense.

I am a member of Diggers

They arrange for people to grow seeds for them

Pumpkins are always a pain as they are very prone to cross pollinating

If you grow two different types you are OK BUT if you grow two from the same family the seeds will be a cross of the two parents

Diggers may assist with growing seeds and swapping through them

I have a Kg of Amaranthus seeds

I also have about the same for Italian Flat Leaf Parsley
