Bluegill would likely be a good choice, as they can handle your temprature fluxuatons.

Still loaded with them. They can handle quite a lot of salinity, the only reason they aren't in the ocean is because of predators. Aside from fishinermen, and diving birds, thre are no predators in the Salton sea.

How did the tilapia handle the drop in salinity when acclimated to your system? 50ppt in the salton sea is pretty intense.

How do your fish winter? Can they handle cold water or do you have to add supplemental heat to your system?

Has anybody made a recent purchase from any of the fish farms near the salton sea ? I have not been able to reach any of them by phone. I'm going to be ready for bluegill and crawfish soon and trying to line up a supplier ahead of time.

Hi all! I'm in Atascadero, just 10 minutes east of Morro Bay. Started a new test system 2 days around using a pond pump, a 200 gallon metal livestock tank, and a waterfall bucket that is about 20 gallons. Lava rock, what a mess!, some gold fish, aquatic cabbage with the fish and tomato and basil plants that were 2 steps from the compost pit. After 2 days the basil perked right up and the tomato plants have new leaves! It's all inside a 12x10 glass greenhouse and if this works, I see 2 long bins and another tank in the future. The soil here is rock with a little dirt on top, Central Coast mountains are not great for gardens so.....

Careful with the livestock tank, the zinc is bad for fish. But aside from that, WELCOME!

I kind figure a galvanized tanks wouldn't be the best but I've had it for about 10 years. I was going on the cheap. Plus after 10 years, didn't too much about it.
