This is cool, hardly anyone in Alabama even knew what Aquaponics was, here there seems to be a whole community :) Not alot of difference in the climate between here and there, I wounder why the difference in AP interest?

I gave up duck hunting not long after steel shot became mandatory. Mainly just deer hunt now.

I do a lot of that too. But yes, steel shot sucks.

Good things I have friends that can call better than me

I have small systems in North Dallas and in Frisco, and have been known to give away IBC totes on occasion (when I have spares and nobody leaping to buy them). Please let me know if you or your church could use one, because I'll probably have one or two next week that I could donate.

:wave1: Thanks! and Howdy neighbor. I'm in The Colony, but didn't think anyone would know where that is.

 Howdy 1luckeyfish and Shelgeyr. I'm in North Plano. I started a system this year just to try my hand at it. Would be good to get together with others in the area and share ideas.

Hello East, I don't have a build thread unfortunately. Once I get some more systems going I will consider putting one up!

 Hi Khill. We too just started our system this spring, and still have a lot to learn.
What kind of fish are you all using in your system? So far we are using Mozambique Tilapa.

I caught bluegill for my system. I just have 10 but enough for my GBs.
Where did you get the tilapia?

Nice catch. We tried to catch bluegill, but weren't successful. :dontknow:

We bought tilapia from Frank @ Frank's Aquaponics in Boyd, TX. Nice guy with lots and lots of tilapia in many different sizes.
Also, there is a Hydroponics Shop in Addison (think the name is Urban Gardens). We talked to the guy there and bought a few things from him. Real nice and informative guy there too.

Oak Cliff (Dallas) here.

system installed cycled in August 2014.
i am expanding my grow beds this month.

i run a 250 gal IBC tank started with goldfish and a few minnows.
keeping minnows and a couple of golfish in the DWC raft/sump to eat the mosquito larvae, keep down the algae.

in the tank i have goldfish, and just added fingerling bluegill...both should be very cold hardy, keeping the system operating nearly year round.

goal is to eventually build a greenhouse around the system.

check out Meetup groups in your areas. there are lots of AP folk organizing thru Meetup.com
i started with DFW Aquaponics. great folk, good seminars.

I'm in Spring, TX, just north of Houston...
Currently starting hydroponics... if all doesn't go to hell, i will attempt making it more complex to accommodate fish.

Cheers
