No I did not but I found Dunn's Fish farm that makes regular deliveries to the area.
I purchased from them.

Thanks

Hey guys, Mike from Hattiesburg here. I've been researching aquaponics for about seven or so years now. I have a system set up at a friend's house that's been running great for a while now. I'm about to go with a much larger setup in the near future go very small scale commercial. I've followed this forum for a while but never officially joined because I could usually find the issue I was having a problem with. I'm joining now to get more involved with the aquaponic network here in the South. I'd love to bounce a few ideas off you guys and get some feedback. I think I know a decent amount about aquaponics but you never know everything. I'm definitely not as knowledgeable as some of the great moderators on this site. I look forward to getting to know you guys!

Does anyone have a system fairly close that they would like to show off? I work offshore so I have weeks at a time to travel and learn as much as I can. Maybe I could show my design plans and see what you think? Once we get it up and running we'll do tours as well. Another cool note, we are going to be operating at a brewery so beer comes with the tour haha!

Are you human?: more now than ever
Location: Southeast Louisiana
Hello Gang, My system is located in Southeast Louisiana, (Kenner)
I've been working at this for almost 4 years now. I started with barrel aquaponics, but they were too jammed up to really work with. I have an all IBC system now. One 300 gallon IBC fish tank, One 250 gallon sump tank, this is a CHOP system serving 8 IBC 14" deep grow beds. I'm still trying to correct the water quality before stocking with Bluegill or Catfish. No vegetables to speak of as yet.

What's good pond pump brand? Don't want to spend over 100. is the magnetic drive pumps better?

Chris,

I've been reading and learning for years, thought it may be time to start posting.

I'm hoping we can revive this thread. I have no preference on pump brand. I've had luck with many different ones. What size is your system?

Sounds like a great set-up. Have you posted any pictures of your system? Definitely always easier to add more GB than FT. That was a smart leave for now. You can easily get 400-1,000 GPH pumps on Amazon and other places for well under $100. I have been and still currently am using a Active Aqua 1,000 GPH pump for my small system. I always tend to over engineer the pump power, but this pump on its lowest setting works great for my small system. Other brands like TetraPond and EcoPlus can also be easily found on Amazon with similar good reviews and results.

I hope all of our friends in LA are high and dry. Y'all be safe and keep us updated if everything is okay.

Hey again, is it to much water to pump say twice the FT volume per hour? or do I need to get flow meter and timer for lager pump? was looking at a solid waste filter and MB so I might take that approach with MTF or DWM. run from FT to SWF then to GB (for additional filter) then ST then pump to DWM or NTF then back to FT. So many ideas think I'm addicted and not even started yet, ha.Thanks for some brand names to search for

How often is your system running? I have my small system on a timer running 16 minute cycles 14 times per day. The system floods and drains three times during each 16 minute cycle. Is that what you're looking to do or are you wanting a system running for more time? I cannot answer your flow questions due to the fact that I've only ever "eyeballed" the flow and adjusted it via ball valve to what I needed.

Wow, hope your friends are all okay.

All my friends in LA are ok, they lost most of what they had but already started recovery. My system is not even built yet, got the IBC's, drums and api test kit. I'm planning to run it constant flood, I havn't found a design to build a siphon and read in the post it don't make a difference to start with. what do you think?

Alright, sounds good. I'll jump over to that one. I started one last week as well, "My first indoor AP." I just uploaded some pictures this morning.
