I live in Sugar Land, TX, USA. I plan to build an aquaponics system Jan-March 2009. I would like to link up with individuals that have built backyard aquaponics sytems in Texas. Kindly reply and indicate where you are in Texas, what kind of system you have (i.e. home grown, barrel-ponics), what species of fish you grow, and how I can contact you. I attended a Barrel-Ponics workshop in South Carolina with Travis Hughey, the developer of Barrel-Ponics. It was a most exciting and knowledge-filled workshop I have evr attended on any topic! I strongly recommend it to any newbie like me.
Thanks.

Hello, my name is Richard and I live in Ottawa Canada. I am glad to see other Canadians here. I have started a small aquarium system. It should be running by this weekend. Once I work out the bugs (and the snow surrenders my backyard) I intend to have a small to medium setup going this year. As Ulchie I would like to have a commercial setup after I know enough about AP.

Hi! my name is Steve. I live in the state of Iowa USA. I've been reading on here for a couple months now. Finally designed a system I can feel comfortable with. Now about to begin the fun part; construction.

I'll have 4 growbeds @ 2' * 8' * 1' deep, 3 of which will be outside. Inside will be, one of aforementioned, 1gb 3' * 7' * 1' deep ( bookshelf frame I'm contributing to the cause ) & a 2' * 4' * 1½' deep cedar chest that has only recently volunteered. I plan to line the gb's with 6 mil plastic, with pea size gravel, bell siphon's with f&d system. Ft is 300 gallon, old portable hot tub frame which I'll line with a higher mil of plastic unless I can convince myself to go with more costly edfm (firestone pond liner). Hot tub liner has a few minor leaks but not sure how much fish will wear out (6 mil to 24 mil plastic) should I go that route. The gb's will be high enough to drain back into the ft, which will be in the spare bedroom. Will try to keep all pvc behind and underneath gb's so landlord will think I'm magically growing a vibrant healthy garden in a bunch of rocks.

Still looking around to see what kind of fish to get. Maybe I'll just wind up taking a 5 gallon bucket with a rope attached to my brother-in-law's pond and see what the fish de jour will be my first attempt with ap. :-)

Hi My name Affnan, my aquaponics system located in Selangor, Malaysia. I have few videos on youtube, the most important on aquaponics is about the bell valve that I designed.

Cheers.

Affnan

Bonjour folks,

I am an American living abroad in Toulouse, France and have just recently started a small AP system in my apartment. I have a large skylight in my bathroom so I figured it would work as a little glass house. I have installed two 30 liter growbeds to a 55 liter fish tank, set up as a flood and drain system with expanded clay pellets as media. I have just two small goldfish in the tank right now while I am waiting for the system to cycle. I will probably add a few more when the ammonia and nitrite drop off...though I am not even sure I will need to for the small number of plants I have growing. In each of the beds I have four clusters of plants. There are four clusters of Batavia lettuce, two clusters of dill, and two clusters of basil. I planted the seeds directly in the pellets as soon as I began to see nitrates increase. Perhaps I should have waited until the tank was cycled, but the seedlings seem to be doing reasonably well in any case (though I am going to post about some droopy lettuce seedlings in another forum).

Projects for this week include covering up the clear plastic grow beds and the clear siphons to inhibit algae growth (I had the three plastic bins laying around the house so I figured I might as well put them to use). I am also thinking that it might be a good idea to cull the least healthy looking plants in each cluster now that they are rooted, in order to prevent the plants fighting each other for space and nutrients. If anyone has any comments about that, I would appreciate the advice.

Cheers,
Bill

Hello to all from North Florida. Built our greenhouse and AP system the beginning of the summer. 350 gal FT with nine GB's. We started with blue gill and have added koi . We will eventually have tilapia when we get everything balanced and regulated.

Hiya all,

I am from Hyderabad, India. Have been lurking for some months now and am absolutely fascinated with AP. Finally set up a small test system yesterday using a 30 ltr aquarium lying unused at home. I have two goldfish, two tetras and a baby barrel head shark (can't be seen in the picture though). The grow bed is 2ft x 1.5 ft by 6 inches. Trying to figure out an auto siphon for a flood and drain system. Had a couple of problems - but thats meat for a diffferent thread. So more on that elsewhere. Don't need any grow lights as it is bright and sunny always in the part of the world I live in.

Plan to grow cilantro and spinach and also maybe use this for starting up seedlings for a 55 gallon barrel system planned for the next weekend...

Will post pix soon

KM
