Thankyou for all the lovely welcomes! I'm still learning the ropes and reading the funnies , don't get some of the lingo yet but I am familiar with some of the spelling because of my 18 year old. I'll be able to give him a run for his money soon. If you can't beat 'em , join 'em.

I'm at Mt Barker, 50 km north of Albany. Just dabbling with worms at the moment - but I can see aquaponics in my future ...

ah now thats what i like to see. now when you say dabbling do you mean farming? or are you just starting out? i'm keen to hear about your vision.

imo the worm industry goes hand in hand with the aquaponic industry. its like both industries were designed to slot in together. imo the key to long term sustainable farming is to symbiotically diversify crops, reducing input and output of each. i guess it is just one aspect permaculture which has the potential to financially sustain growth of permaculture as a whole. without sources of revenue the permaculture industry will not grow to its potential which the planet so desperately needs. i'm fairly excited about making permaculture financially viable with the aid of worms/fish/ plants. i'm more exited about leaving the earth is a better state than when i got here.

sorry about the rant. pleasure to meet you doug.

Hi,I'm Tony and I live in Bedfordale. I just learned about AP (AquaPonics I think) this week. We have a small fish pond of ~200 litres with some gold and black fish in it (wouldn't be 200G of fish in total:( ). I have collected some bathtubs and hope to put one on this pond (perhaps a laundry trough would be a better size for the number of fish we have.)

I will be busy reading on this issue here for some time yet. I will probably get most of my answers from prior replies, but don't be too hard if I ask some really common questions because I sometimes miss the details.

Keep up the good work,
tony
ps, Did anyone see the article in Renew about cooling the greenhouse to heat the fish tank, which kept the greenhouse warmer overnight?

Welcome, Tony!

We don't mind answering questions at all. Those of us who have been here a while know how hard it can be to find that one answer you need. When you think you have enough ideas to design a system, draw some pictures and post your ideas in your own thread. We'd be happy to discuss the merits of your design!
