Hi Hamish

I'd be interested to know how your balcony kit goes.

Anyone, I'm wondering about how much babysitting a system needs. Do you need to be there every day to babysit the fish (and scare off the egrets)? Or can I get away for a surfari for 3 or 4 days to preserv my sanity?

I want a life of no egrets. I like the look of the heavy door thing on the fish tank to keep the grey feathered fishermen out.

Cheers

it depends on the complexity of the systemas to how much you can leave it for. I find that if I am away for much more than a day something is bound to mess/play up so I try not to be away for much more than that but with a correctly setup and stable system if you had an automatic feeder you could most likely be away for days with not much worry. You could always just get someone to stick there head in and have a look for you.

My system is little complex, just to clarify, because I have long distances to travel from bed to tank and a semi open top tank. I intermittanlty lose water to pipes slowly seperating, and then also have pumps blocking and beds overflowing due to root buildup. But the next system will hopefully be much simpler and less complex.

The balcony kit is really simple in operation - I dont think ill have too many issues leaving it for a few days. I have set up a BioPod that will work as a sort of autofeeder - the grubs crawl out and drop straight into the tank for the fish!

I'm confident in leaving my system for a week at a time. I would reduce the amount of feed dispensed by the autofeeder though - just to be on the safe side.

Townsville form me.

Such a great place for 9 months of the year and th other time I would not live anywhere else.

I live in the pimlico area and I am also involved int eh permaculture group in Townsville

Dont have a AP system as yet as I have only "dicoverd" the idea BUT I think it is brilliant.

Hi there,

Does anybody want a 3/4 length bath to use as an extra growbed?

It's full of timber at the moment, but as soon as I get rid of all that, it's yours!

Andrew

Thought I'd say hi and introduce myself.

Stumbled onto the idea of AP a few weeks ago, and am keen to get a system up and running. I'll probably start small until I get my knowledge/skills/confidence up, possibly utilising the old bath tub already in my back yard. Might throw some redclaw in there to begin with. Hopefully this will replace or complement my existing conventional vege garden.

Anyway, if anyone lives in the area and is willing to let me see their system, and have a bit of a chat to get me started, I'd be most appreciative.

G'day ryangus. There are a few of us in SEQ. I expect Les will invite you to his place for a look as soon as he reads your post. He is at Burpengary, so fairly handy to you.

I am a little further south, but still on the northside. My system is not as impressive as Les' - but let me know if you want to have a visit after you have seen Les' setup :geek:
