Hi ryangus,

There are at least two of us nearby, me in Narangba and Les in Burpengary. You are welcome to come see my system if you like. Just PM me for some details. Weekends are OK.

cheers
Derek

Hi there ryangus,

I'm just an armchair aquaponicist at the mo, pending our relocation to the UK, but thought I'd throw out another local welcome!

I'm also looking at the redclaw - they just look like a great size for eating, and they're pretty much the only crustaceans that we'll be able to keep in the UK. Does anyone know wher we can buy some eating-size redclaw to try?

Always keen to taste these things before putting so much effort into growing them!

Redclaw taste great. I catch them when I go camping and if I get enough, boil them up for a tasty feed. Provided you cook them with enough salt, they taste quite similar to prawns. Not sure where to buy them, but they're quite common in any semi-rural creek (actually, many urban creeks also, but buggered if I'd trust the water quality!).

Hi All,

I live at Deception Bay and have set up an Aquaponic setup in my back yard.
At present I have Jade Perch doing well. Would like to contact anyone near to swap info.

Hi Jaymie,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
It's a pity you are so far away, I hope to get up your way in the future.
It appears as though all the other AP systems have disapeared from my area!
Never mind I will blunder on regardless.

Jarvis

I must of missed your post last week, I have been quiet though. I'm in Narangba and you're welcome to come see my system and I could maybe arrange a visit to Les's (EllKayBee) place in Burpengary as well.

PM me and if you are interested and I'll reply with my phone number.

cheers
Derek

Post subject:  BYAP System in Queensland

As a point of interest, I was in Mount Pleasant yesterday, (near Dayboro) doing the Master Tree Growers course. One of the other participants whose place we visited to view his stand of trees has one of the BYAP systems. Andrew and his wife visited the BYAP shop met Faye and had a system transported across to QLD.

It is newly installed 4 bed system with seedlings and no fish as yet. The 120 Jade Perch were supposed to arrive on Friday from AusyFish but didn't due to what I saw as lame excuses. I got the other course members to come and see the system and Andrew and I explained the mechanical setup and the nitrogen cycle.

Anyway, it is good to have someone else with similar AP interests on my MTG course (or Tree School according to my work mates) and to see a BYAP system up close. All very good stuff and Andrew is happy.

cheers
Derek

Hi Jarvis,
you are welcome to come across and swap BYAP yarns - my system is in a state of disrepair (under modification  ) at present - but I can show you how not to setup to cater for large storms

Hi EllKayBee,

Thank you for your invite. Please give me a call on xxxxxx and we can arrange a time to suit.

I visited Derek and his lovely wife last sunday and found being able to talk about BYAP with people who are engaged in BYAP a great experience. :flower:

Talk to you all soon Bob

Edited to save Bob from the world. I'll send the number to LKB

Just caught up on this news. You must have got quite a surprise when you recognised the system Derek. Ronda had visited the shop when here on business and the following time brought Andrew shopping with her. :D Yet another satasfied customer. Aaah. I love it.
