Hi all, our system is almost good to go - I'll post photos when its up and running!

Does anyone have a program that they would not mind sharing with me? It make so much more sense than reinventing the wheel!

Thanks in advance

Simone

Hi Thorn,

I am a high school teacher - a program is an outline of a series of lessons that can be taught around a particular subject.

I think I posted in the schools section of this forum though I might be wrong, if so, I'm sorry, I have not been on here for a couple of years.

I hope that makes it a bit clearer for you.

Simone

So, you want to teach Aquaponics in the school? What grade?
Is this part of the science activities?

Yep! Teaching probably to year 10. So 15 and 16 year olds. I myself will be teaching it in my subject area - Agriculture, but I know our science staff are closely watching its progress and so too is the marine studies teacher at our senior campus (year 11 & 12's)

Start with explaining the parts of the Aquaponics system and what they are for.
And then move on to ammonia, nitrite, nitrate cycle. Bacteria in grow beds etc. Water chemistry too.
pH and how to adjust
System comparisons like flood and drain vs constant flood or DWC vs NFT vs Grow Beds
Correlation between the fish feed and the vegetables growing on top.
You can also look into measuring the nutrient density of the vegetables using a refractometer and look for ways to increase it (homework to kids)
The seasonal cycle of vegetables, spring-summer vs autumn-winter
Measure veggies and fish, see how much a system produces food. Is it feasible?
Growing dwarf trees in buckets using AP.

These are the things I can think off.

Thanks Gurkan - that gives me something to start with, I am hoping that there are a few teachers on here who already have a working program that they don't mind sharing so that I don't have to write one from scratch. At least now I have some direction!
Thanks again
