The kids at the Hunter Christian School in Newcastle are all abuzz about aquaponics... They've done their research (with the help of teacher John Evans (not a forum member, but a private aquaponicist)... and brother of Franc (member Funku).... put together an aquaponics system... As the system wasn't cycled, and the school was about to break for end of term last time I delivered trout to Newcastle... we held them over until today... But everyone knew they were coming... the school caretaker pulled up beside the car before I even got out... the receptionist new all about things... John guided me around to the system... And the kids came running... "The fish are here"... The trout have been well fed in the interim... and are putting on some size... and settled in well... Attachment: 100_3284 (Medium).JPG [ 44.8 KiB | Viewed 11916 times ] This big fella sadly didn't survive the trip... a combination of being "gilled" during capture from the tank... and a couple of minutes flapping on the ground before i spotted that he'd "jumped"... Attachment: 100_3285 (Medium).JPG [ 73.25 KiB | Viewed 11916 times ] The science teacher wondered down... and the "departed" fingerling was duely measured, and weighed.. then taken back to the science lab for a dissection lesson... Along the blessing thread, since John & family are having an addition to the family. So on behalf of john & the school, I would like to thank Rup for keeping the trout in fine condition and growing them out so well. Also appreciate the customer care for the numerous extra delivery trips up here and to make sure all going well. Many thanks. The students and teachers were excited and couldn't keep away. I'm sure the school newsletter will introduce if not ensnare more of the hunter community to the AP madness. F |

great to see more AP in schools... Unfortunately we have to put ours behind pool fencing and is too far from classrooms to draw many kids... But if all goes my way next year I will have one in the school, next to the new Marine Ed classroom... Looking forward to seeing updates ![]() |
