Have not washed what I placed in the other grow-bed but I did give it a dry sieve to remove the bulk of dust..

so hopefully that will drop most of the dust/sludge out of the system..

I just cannot see how a uniseal can give a satisfactory long term problem free seal at the bottom of a 1000 liter tank like that. I see it will just give you problems forever. I would personally only use a uniseal where a pipe needs to pass into a tank above water level. You should find some sort of bulkhead fitting that you can screw together from each side of the tank and ditch the uniseals. Just my opinion. I would want to sort that out before you get fish running and then things get a whole lot more difficult to fix.

Uniseals would be great for keeping sump returns and plumbing neat and tidy and keeping insects and rodents out of the system but not for places where they need to seal at the bottom of tanks where there is pressure. I have seen quite a few people struggling with leaking uniseals on this forum.

If something has a high chance of causing problems down the line, stay away! Avoid the HSM and potential loss of fish. Especially where you are running a bigger system and loosing all your fish is going to be a bigger more expensive loss. If the tank is subsiding in the hole you will have issues with plumbing and even land up with broken pvc pipes. Can you not put a 75mm concrete base down for the tanks to sit on or something like that?

I use High pressure pvc fittings that screw together and they work great for passing in and out of barrels and ibc tanks. Just use some pft tape to create a nice seal. No problems.

I am glad to read this discussion on trouble with uniseal.
I am at a stage of plannig for plumbing in my new system, and was intending to use uniseal.
I should do more research on plumbing before trying.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Juergen,

Did any fish die because of dirty gravel? How hot does it get there? Is it hotter than Thailand? If hotter than Thailand I don't think I could take it - Thailand is about by limit.

All Fish are ok..

The grow-beds are isolated from any fish at this stage..

I'll finish filling the grow-beds today, hopefully..
I have to add the small grow-bed, and see if that will use the rest of the scoria..

I'll post more photo's tonight..

Juergen

Added extra..
- Temperatures in my area have been as warm.. Not as hot as the guy's and girl's over in West Oz..
- The water in the fish tank have only hit, 25c... But I want to get an electronic sensor so I can check on the temp's..

the big test will be once I have the whole system running..

If the system goes as I hope, I will be adding Trout ASAP..

Not in the truest sense of the word. I have the K1 in a floating cage above the diffuser so I can colonise the media....

System is constantly changing, but been very busy with life....so not much happening to the system at present.

well I'm back from my forced holiday...

I have been away from the comp since wednesday..
spent that time flat on my back hooked up to a machine waiting for my INR readings to get down from the stratosphere where it was..
Heart getting monitored 24/7, blood test every 6hr.. Vitamin K shoot..

Heart turbo charged..

What fun..

Well I'm back and I will try to catch up and comment like mad..lol

Ok..

Here goes a small update..

Image
This is not the finished image, that still has to be taken.. The grow-bed in the foreground is full to the mark I want it at..about 10cm below the final mark..

Image
The Growbed in the foreground[GB#1] is full to the pre-hydroton level..
- the Cage you see is the the location that is going to be for the smaller Growbed..

this should bring My overall growbed capacity to about 3000-3200lt of Filtration..
up from the 2400lt I was looking at..

I've also discussed the issue of mixing the species I currently have with trout..
[Which I'm Looking at getting in a few weeks.. if I have the system fully cycling[water flow circuit]..]
I'm think'n about 80-100 trout..
