Lookin good snow,

Couple of points without running back through your thread so excuse my laziness -
1 - will the ST have a circular/spiral flow? If so I understand your SLO design, if not - consider designing so or maybe change your SLO base to cover more FT floor.
2 - The hamster ball used in your moving media filter would be better replaced with a "yabbie ball" TM hehe, not with a yabbie in it thou hehe
3 - Can you explain your system flow from start to finish please, thanks snow

Ok here goes the flow..

From the highest point to the Lowest..

Moving media Filter.. >G> Fish tank >G> Settlement Chamber >G> Grow Bed's >G> The sumps >>> Pump Float controlled >P> Moving Media Filter >G> Fish Tank..

Off the pump Line I plan to feed another smaller tank for Fry..

Image

Flow wise in the FT there is a slow circular action of water movement.. I'm try to work out if I need a bigger pump to help this out or whether I install a bend to help direct the water flow..

I hope this helps..

If you think you see any issue speak up.. I would rather get it right now and have to fix later..

Yep, thats what Im trying to do Snow, just helping, always better to have a few eyes on the plumbing and flow when multiple tanks/beds are involved. Thanks for posting the flow, I have a much better understanding now. A small circular flow would be all you need snow, it would see all the solids moving to the middle in your settlement tank so your SLO design is great. You will get a little caught up on the uneven floor but nothing that is worth worrying about (a little stir with a broom now and then).

Quite complex but Im watching with interest mate.

Hey Charlie,
I was not being defensive with my comment, I'm actually wanting people to point out if they see a problem..

I would much rather nip any mistakes now.. As I know it will be a Pain in the Butt to Fix them later..

One issue for me is I'm not 100% sure on my pump selection..
Most of the people I know say to turn over the volume of the Fish pond/tank hourly and at this stage I only have about 2400lt of Grow beds and what I would consider a light fish load for now..

No trout for me at this stage..

Looking good SnowT, there has been a lot of thought, and work gone into this. One thing that might be worth thinking about is if for some reason the bottom of your SLO in the fishtank gets blocked there is nowhere for the water to go apart from overflow the tank, whereas if there was an inlet in your SLO above water level, but below the rim of the tank, this could possibly save you in the rare event of the bottom SLO being blocked..
Does this make sense, or should I draw a sketch?
Cheers,
Wavey.

Wavey Great pick-up..

No not a dumb comment at all..
I have not installed yet, But I working on heights of the system water in the Fish tank..

My fix is going to be a an overflow back to the sump..
As I'm just getting to add the sump to the system, so I have not installed the over flow as of yet..

Well the frame work is taking time to complete..

I'm using 200*75 Sleepers.. for my main supports..

I have Some green happening..So I had better think of a shade cover for the Fish Tank..
Water temp have been good I have to get a data logger so I can keep a track of it..

I tried an interesting experiment today.. I dropped a large Air-stone down the center tube of my SLO..

The final water level in the fish tank was 4inches lower than exit pipe of the SLO and when I mean exit of the Slo, I mean the junction of the vertical and the horizontal connection

More Pictures to be added tomorrow..

I know I said Pics today but, sorry not today..

I was to busy doing the work and they got roped into Cooking dinner on the BBQ..

So a verbal update..

- I have 1 growbed sitting in place so I can nut out the final supports I'm missing a few and with about 1-1.2t of weight in each grow bed I want them rock steady..
- I have an idea of how I'm running the grow bed water feeds..
- Sump returns have been worked out..
==> Removal of said tree stump still has to happen..

I'm getting there..

Looking great Jeurgen.

I read a lot people say that for a big system you want the entire capacity of the water to be cycling at least once an hour.

From looking at your system 8000LPH pump is about right. You need to calculate head / pumping heights, etc, but it looks like it should be okay if your capacity and pumping rate is around 8000L.

On he pump front, I'm not 100% sure of the capacity of the system..

I know that I can improve it by using an Air lift to help get more flow out of the tank. The main problem I see is getting the water from the Sump back to the Fish Tank...
I don't think the pump is going to do the job..

One of the reason why I have not been getting some photo's..
Image

Ok here is where I'm at at the moment..

Image
Grow bed 1 in place.. it needs some extra supports under it.. But this is it final location

Image
The plumbing backbone under the supports going in place.. hae to get it ready to connect to the Settlement chamber..

Image
You can't see it but the area on the south side of the growbed is big enough to have 2 blue barrels, I'm going to maximize the space..

Image
I think I might have a problem with the GB's Spreading So I'm Looking at putting a support across the width in the middle..

On a side note.. Our dirt patch is starting to produce some great tom's.. They are all Diggers heritage, and I have to say this home grown tomatoes are much better than store bought one.. The freshness is great..

Image

More tomorrow have a good night..

All looking good snowT... try taking off all the side shoots and leaves of your tomato plants. just leave 3 or 4 leaves at the top. Then they put all their energy into fruit production..
