Ok guys got another 4 IBC's today to start the expantion and also have convinced my brother to jump on board and I will help him set up a new system the following weekend and we will split the fish between us. I cant have these poor fish living in future toxic conditions and quite possibly an early death, what was I thinking!!!!

Nice to see Charlie !

The other thing to consider is that happy/healthy fish grow significantly faster than stressed fish !

So even overstocking and getting them to survive is not really a win, as you may have more fish, but they're smaller than they would otherwise have been.

Also, stressed fish will frequently eat the same amount as healthy fish, but a large chunk of the energy from the food goes into coping with the stress, instead of into growth. Therefore your smaller fish are costing you as much as the bigger ones would have.

Thanks chillidude, valuable information. :thumbleft: I am one of the unfortunate ones that got caught out with the 1 fish per 10 litres mumbo jumbo. One of the many hurdles I will no doubt come across with my newly found love and passion.

Cheers.

Charlie, you have just learnt in a couple of hours what the more seasoned of us have learned over many years. Please don't think you've been jumped on, but read back into the early posts of those giving advice and you will see that they are usually speaking from experience.

Couldnt agree more Dicko. Mum always said I was a little too big for my boots and she used to slap me on the hand too. I take everything on with full respect and bow to the efforts you lot have put in over so many years. I just wanna be part of the gang..

Are you human?: Take me 2 ur leader

There's a commercial AP system I recently visited has the large circular tanks for recirculating aquaculture, and the tilapia in them are so dense I would bet they literally take up one third of the volume of the tank. When they're fed, you could almost walk on their backs, as they are a solid mass.

I have NO IDEA what that owner is thinking. Yes, it's all well aerated, and they use swirl filters and UV, but good lord, I got sick just looking at those poor fish. One good power outage...

They sure were big fish, though. I'd love (hate?) to take water parameter tests...

:dontknow:
