Hi All, Here is my first try at aquaponics. The tank is 40gal(151.42 L)and GB's are about 6.5gal(24.5L). the system had to be small since we live in an apartment, and my wife didn't want to know it existed. My 6yr old twins(girl/boy) and I have been getting it ready.

Welcome to the forum, the system looks great. What kind of fish will you stock?

Don't have a clue yet. Any suggestions? I'm taking a tour friday at a local farm(Cabbage Hill Farms, Mount kisco,NY) which has a large aquaponics system, was hoping they would have some ideas.

Welcome :)

That looks quite neat. Do you get much natural light through the window, or is that what the lamp is for?

Lots of sun through window all year long, good in the winter, summer is a little to much. We had a very cloudy day with fog from sunrise until around 1pm, lamp was so I could see. Still trying to get all hydroton dust off the bottom of the FT.

The kids and I planted some Lettuce seeds on Sunday, came home from work today and they already started to sprout. Don't know who's more excited Me or the kids. Have been cycling the system with some water I stole from my kids fish tank, along with some poop I cleaned out of the gravel. Guess we will get some feeder fish for now until I decide what type of fish to put in.

That is a great looking set up there Ant.

One question, how far below the surface of the grow media is the water? The top looks very wet.

A couple of schools of different tetras would look cool :)

Thanks. The water gets about 1/4" from the top, was planning on adding more hydroton(which I spent 2

hours cleaning last night)but when I got home today and saw the sprouts I didn't want to crush them.

Going to try and lower stand pipe for now. Will add more once the lettuce gets settled in.

Hi ANT67 - that is a very nice looking setup. Any wife should be persuaded to love Aquaponics by such a tidy setup!
All the best,
Kasper

So got some feeders in the FT the other day. Today added swirl filter to try and keep every looking clean, seems to work pretty well.
