Same here with low ph this time of the year.

I have to add a cup of lime very few days to prop my ph back to 6'ish.

telonline, I was also thinking that and will shift the shell grit to a position under one of the GB returns when next down at the Puddle. I think it makes sense that the buffering action will happen faster with the greater exposure that the running water will allow.

Slowboat, a second bag of shell grit can't hurt so I will prepare another one. At the very least it will provide more surface area for nitrifying bacteria colonisation.

skeggley, that's curious that your pH and ammonia readings have also shifted. The Puddle is in Claremont and there has been a lot of rain down there lately - maybe acid rain  . It probably receives runoff from the surrounding pavers, as well, since it is set at ground level.

Gabe, I may go the lime path if I don't get a some results from the added shell grit pretty soon. Is it garden lime or builders lime that you use?

No floaters, Ron, but I suggested to the Puddle Princess that she drag her net around the depths of the Puddle just in case there are some dead'uns lurking down there.

All of her mutts and moggies are accounted for.

It doesn't happen very often but, when it does, it is greeted with great excitement. The Puddle is crystal clear.

There is quite a bit of size variation evident in the Silvers, but many look to be 350g or more.

Before anyone comments on the uneaten pellets floating in the Puddle, they were thrown in for the fish only moments before the pic was taken. The clearness of the water makes the SPs more skittish than usual so they weren't too interested in rising to the surface to feed while we were hanging around.

Sorry, Charlie, but I'm not in a position to provide an update on the Puddle. Sadly, the Puddle Princess has cast me out of her life  and I haven't had an opportunity to view the Puddle since mid January.
