Charlie...
With the piston pumps...

I have repaired one using a SILICON oven mat.. I just cut out suitable discs of the thin material and put it back together..

The issue that I think they have is the heat affecting the original material.. you can be sure the silicon mats material won't be troubled by the heat..

I got another two years out of it, but eventually, the mechanics wore just that bit too much....

The first mats came from Aldi, when they had them on special sale..

Ha ha.

We could always give it a go, Column. Ive got the time if you have. Was just trying to mow the lawn and my old Greenfields ride on threw a drive belt for the third time. Most of the pulley bearings are shot and Im on the PC weighing up the cost of fixing it compared to.. well, just going and buying a new one. Im thinking I might go buy a new John Deer tomorrow... :)

Bui, I think I did try something like that. I think from memory I tried using a bicycle tyre tube but it didn't last long. Im pretty sure I still have the pump in the shed somewhere.

Ive got a new one now anyways....

ccBear I agree.

Charlie I have just given my greenfield evo mark2 a once over. It gets a absolute flogging on the farm. New drive pullies, new bearings in clutch and cutting deck. Did the work myself, not that hard to do with a few tools. Works like new. If you can get a kevlar drive belt they are worth the extra money.

I would never buy a transaxle mower again.

God bless, froggo

Hmmm, I was under the impression JD was the ducks nuts. I like the greenfields, its a strong old girl but its testing my patience lately. Im a mechanic so no probs with repairing it, its just getting to the point of painful. Its very old.
