I was originally giong to start with one IBC, but it wasnt pretty enough for the back yard. :upset:

So I dragged the wife along to BYAP, showed her the Backyard system on display and got permission :headbang:

So just before my final uni exam for the semester I went back and made a small purchase
Image

Next day, uni exam over, I pulled out the welder and grinder and started knocking up some stands.
Cutting steel. Always cut beside the line, not on the line

Ready to tack

Tacked and braced

Test fit

One stand finished

3 days later...driving home with a few stands, left over steel, and a couple of bags of hydroton
Image
I didnt take a photo of the drive home with the tank, I dont want incriminating evidence...

1 week to paint the stands, and the first test run, being inspected by the dog
Image

Picking up 50 goldfish tomorrow to get the system cycled and ready for Barra when the time comes, and planting Saturday.

After doing tests last night, with all 3 feed pipe ball valves fully open, the first grow bed starts overflowing into the standpipe after almost exactly 6 minutes, followed by the 2nd bed 30 seconds later, and 3rd bed just before 7 minutes.

The addiction has started

Cheers

Andrew

Very nice. I bet the wife is happy with how it has turned out so far. She will be even happier when you start harvesting nice veggies and fish from your system.

Cheers everyone.

Yup, 30 bags on Hydroton

The stands I painted to match the fence and shed, but once I put the growbeds on I kind of wish I matched to their colour instead, but it will do :dontknow:

The wife is very happy, I am surprised by how excited she is.
I dont know how excited she will be when we approach the first fish cull.
I am pretty sure she still thinks chicken breasts and steak grow on a magical tree, she also refuses to eat Kangaroo because they are too cute. Obviously never been too close to an angry Red...

Oh well, more fish for me

No scary cc bills, I was putting aside a little every week for about 6 months for this :)
And of course the prices at BYAP are soooo low that you really feel like they are giving stuff away (wonder if I get discount next time I go in now... Oh Joel and Faye....)

I may have to stop stirring her up as well.

The first time she tried Kangaroo, everytime I walked past her to or from the bbq I kept clicking my tongue saying "Here Skip".
I'll have to stop myself from quoting Bruce on Finding Nemo: "Fish are friends, not food" in the days leading up to the cull

Sometimes I wonder why she married me :dontknow:
