With lots of bacteria from my oldest system.. When we tested the system at 4 weeks old there was no ammonia, I'm not sure exactly how quickly it cycled, but it was less than 4 weeks..

Joel... Faye ...

Proof that given the correct conditions, plants thrive!

Aquaponics delivers!

Lovely well lit spot for this time of year!

Joel , a well thought out system and one that is carefully put together delivers the reward.

Faye , you have managed winter veggies like an expert.. looking forward to long , hot, bright , dry summers..

I bet you get even more productive with the seasonal choices you make, regards choice of plants, fish care, applying shade etc. etc!

Kudos to you both!

Most of what I have to do is just stand back and watch it grow. You know how plants like being talked to, they love it even more when people stand and admire them and say nice things, you can almost see their midribs stand tall and fluff their leaves out wide, it is just an all round great feeling.

Faye, I am a bit disappointed in that you have not followed the basic AP rule:

"If you can see the gravel then there is not enough plants in there" :waggingfinger:

...so when are you gonna right the wrong

My deepest apologies LKB. Is that why my water turned greener than the plants? oops shhh
Sorry LKB
What do you recommend that I plant in Perth that would look really good in 3 weeks for our open garden.
It takes a while to get a handle on the planting density, you must remember I have been an old fashioned gardener for a long time and old habits die hard.
I'll try harder!

I reckon they look wonderful as they are (Les trying to save face  ).

Start messing about with the system before the big day and you have a disaster. Recall attending a Bris meet last year where the host decided to use thrive on his plants the night before...result fantastic showing plants...very dead fish

A few lettuce seedlings might fill the gaps if you really feel you need to Faye. To reduce the shock and ensure they are looking good in three weeks - don't wash all the mix off the roots.

Other option is to steal a few of Joel's plants ;-)

Do you reckon Joels Jungle would actually look any different if I nicked a few vege plants? I wonder if he'd notice.
