I'm pretty sure it's all for aquaculture use even the stuff they use for water treatment would be the same product.

The company I bought mine from have some great aquaculture products, most are well out range of anything that I can afford but still good to drool over them.
https://freshbydesign.com.au/

What I have just seen is their SODIUM BI-CARBONATE is only $15 a 5kg bucket, I've been paying $35 a kilo from a Brew-shop, that is about to stop.
https://freshbydesign.com.au/aquaponic- ... carbonate/

My fish survived the night, it was 22.8c at 1:00am and back down to 21.6c at 7:00am, that's 2 nights now I've been out there at 1:00am hosing & misting to try and lower the temperature, it's working but just.

Today and tonight will be the test, if I can make through tonight and still be OK in the morning there's cooler weather on the way and I'll harvest before the next lot of hot weather. There's not a lot of tolerance with Trout, not like the old Silver Perch even in the low 30c's they can still cut the mustard.

I haven't fed the fish for 2 days and with a pH of 6.0 it keeps the TAN down and that is helping.

With the new filters and Bio Media things will be a lot better for the next batch and I'll be able the fatten then up a lot earlier before the heat next year and harvest earlier.

Your Tilapia are like Goldfish, you'll need to drop a brick on them to kill them off, Tilapia are banned here and my Filipino wife keeps wanting Tilapia. She wants to dry some of these Trout when we harvest them, you would be well aware of dried fish and the smell when they cook it, I'd rather eat an old boot. You wouldn't need to cook it and the taste would be pretty close :laughing3:

New seedling bench, this is designed for the foam cubes I use,as you can see it’s the size of tweve flats which is 1,176 cubes, spacing them this way helps prevent algae growth in the tray, the whitc polystyrene under the bench is the same size as a flat,so if I take one out I can cover the hole with poly, slick eh.
The bench is flood and drain,a small pump delivers the water and then when it switches of just drains back through the pump, it pumps for two minutes every three hours.

Andy it's all looking great and you have been busy, love your work.

That Seedling Bench looks like it will be an absolute winner, I'll keeping an eye how that progresses.

With the Trout, we had another week of hot weather and 2 days in I had to harvest all the Trout, it was the overnight temperatures that made it just too hard, next year I'll need to decide what I do about the weather and maybe invest in a chiller.

I never lost a single fish, the first 15 made it into the smoker and the rest into the freezer so I was happy, I would have loved a couple more weeks of growth but I'm happy to get them all out OK.

I'm now trying different recipes and cooking techniques with the smoker and getting some nice tasting fish, Trout are pretty bland without smoking them.

Wowsa, Andy! Watching your upgrade project progress is like seeing a symphony of arts in action. You've got so many beautiful aspects of your build coming together lately, I honestly don't know where to inject comments other than "Good Job, buddy!" I am so happy to have witnessed your thread over the years and seeing it come together into this, is utterly humbling for this observer.
Thank you Thank you.
Brian

Ok you lovely people time for lots of pics, this is where we stand as of the 11th Dec and I have to be honest, this thing is beginning to give me a lovely warm feeling. It’s getting closer to being finished and as things get tidied up it’s nice to be able to stand back and just look at it, it’s been hard work and another huge learning curve but it’s all worth it.
Anyway a shot from the front,Grand Rapids Lettuce and curly Kale, the Grand Rapids is being phased out fro Butterhead, Green and Red Oak as I can make more money.

The first pic is the new third trough, this time constructed from a welded steel frame and using fiber cement boards for the sides,I filled the base with sand and leveled, then polystyrene insulation before the liner which is held in place with a wood cap,it will get painted white on the outside surfaces. This type of construct is a really good replacement for concrete in our location and there is not much difference in price.
