I'vr brrn tinkering with a fish tank given to me, and thought I'd share it with you.

System is as follows:
200L aquarium FT
small cheap plastic trough GB
Clay balls
Eheim canister filter.
I large Jade perch and a few guppies (yet to be eaten after a few days!)
Maidenhair and some other ferns

Took a little bit of trial and error to get the auto-siphon working (as usual), and finally got it working at about 2 minutes fill, 15 seconds drain.

Next change will be to get a bigger, better GB, but finding something the right size (~ 1000 x 300 x 300mm) is proving challenging!

Hope you like it!

Which level? The Gb level is ~1" below the surface. The FT level is ~1" below the top, but the wooden hood hangs over the edge, so perhaps gives the appearance of almost overflowing.

The shape moulded into the GB looked like water spilling over the edge.
At first glance.
I like your setup, have a bit of a soft spot for aquarium systems.

I was thinking more that the surface of the media looked quite damp and may cause algea or plant rot. Maybe drop your water level a bit more.

Fair call, but that's only because I had just adjusted the level. It now tops out about an inch below the surface. 8)
