That was pretty cool. He must be building a massive Ap system

So I've been working on my AP system for the last couple of weekends. Took Thursday and Friday off last week to do nothing but AP stuff. I moved the RFF into a corner of the shed, re-did the drain from the FT to the RFF using 2" glued pipe, set up the one tub as a sump and the mortar tub as a bed between the RFF and sump. I'm gathering red lava rock from the front yard that the previous owners used as a mulch, to fill the mortar tub.

Late on last weekend finally got to what I really wanted to do which was work on my new trough ideas. I built a few experimental prototypes over the Winter and was thinking about them a lot. The thinned silicone was one way to enable what I wanted to do cheaply but still with materials at hand: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=21994 This seems to be working OK as long as the layer is not too thin.

The following are some construction photos of the pergola/arbor I made for the area next to the shed. The AP troughs are going to be on top of the arbor (7 feet up), in lieu of slats or other lattice. I also plan to put in one or more planted walls on the side of the arbor.

Did a leak test on the troughs yesterday and they do leak at the corners of the plastic. I am going to try putting a good glob of silicone in each corner and see if that fixes it. Once they aren't leaking anymore I will be putting a slotted pipe in the bottom with landscape fabric as a screen, then filling with charcoal as a medium. The troughs will be watered wicking fashion, only at the bottom with water running through in a stream.

Enjoy!

Scotty this is why I am thinking about canvas. For cheapness I am using 6 mil construction plastic for these troughs. A nicer covering could be put over the plastic very easily, but the next experiment would be to skip to using something that is already nice looking like canvas. I want to try the thinned silicone on canvas.

That looks neat Dave :thumbright: . I think the canvas would look pretty good - you could always cover the plastic with it if the canvas doesn't work (just to protect it from UV)

Looking good.

How come you didn't go for a DWC type bed? With the amount of timber you used, it wouldn't have been much more to construct the dwc beds.

Is the plan to leave the base open? Or to cover it? I'm just imaging me knocking it with something and and it ballooning out.
