So it's not just my fences that are falling down,.....

Cookie do you think you could do a quick diagram of your system for us?
I'm particularly interested in your filter system for mineralization.

I'm absolutely with you on aquaponics being the future.
As prices are rising faster and faster people will be forced into growing more of their own food needs.
And with the modern low power consumption pumps and led lights aquaponics becomes a possible solution
towards lowering the cost of those food needs.

People, particularly families working together to grow food can only be a good thing and a unifying communal activity.

As you're actively seeking the dissemination of these ideas you are making a future and a way through for people with needs.
Good on you, I say.

P.S. I love all the photo's very inspiring.

ok so a quick update...
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0.25ppm
nitrates 30-40ppm
ph 7
EC I really don't know battery died.

well between the time I planted out some parsley seedlings but they weren't the best of seedlings but o well I'll hada just wait to see what will happen.

Well I have officially made a forest of tomato trees.... yes trees because they are getting that tall and thick... flowers are forming of the young plants and are about to open... umm more sweet tomatoes to come.

With the sweet pepper plants it seems that they don't fancy the direct sunlight much especially when there is a white reflective Styrofoam board underneat them. but the ones in the shade is coming along great. Looking forward for great stuff from them.
there are also some pumpkin vines in the system coming along very well... I really don't know what will happen with roots and soo on but time will tell.
ok well enough of the chatting time for pics... enjoy.

thx skeggley.. honestly for pest control I really don't do much now, just a few spiders here and der does wonders... but in before I had a very hugh pest problem but I found out that pest especially aphids, are attracted to plants that uptake high levels of nitrates. and in a normal aquaponics system we usually have high levels of nitrates. so when I brought down my nitrates levels to arround 40 ppm it not only favored the flowering aspects but also corrected alot of my pest problems. but if u need a aphids killer recipe I'll post one up.

I got a great mite/ aphids spray... works will on fungus as well.. what u need is
1cup of olive oil.
1 head of pealed garlic.
1 spray bottle.
some water.

finely dice the gralic. try not to blend I will be hard to filter later and could clog spray bottle.
after dicing place garlic into the cup of oil. then place this mixture into the cooling section of the fridge.. not freezing... leave for about a week in there. after a week its ready to be used. if I looks like it has solidify just let it sit in room temperature for a while it will liquefy back.
measure 2 tablespoon per gallon of water also add a drop I repeat 1 drop of dish washing liquid to the water as well.

spray onto affect areas in the evening time. this will minimize leaf burns. the next day u should see results if rain doesn’t fall.. let me know if it works.

Morning fokes.. it been a while since I did an update. well its been officially 3 months and counting since I left the solids within the system. water quality is still very good and clear. no deaths so far.. no signs of sickness or stresses in the fishes so I guess the fishes are happy.
updates on the plants. first of all sweetpeppers doesn't like direct sunlight when in DWC so I hada take them out but. the tomatoes on the other hand are growing like beast. they are literally taking over the raft. it stop tryin to prune then. it takes to long. and I got to tie then up like 2 a week. they grow that fast. I don't understand how SOME people say tomatoes can't grow in aquaponics without supplements of potassium, calcium, phosphorous and even some wants to add nitrates into an already nitrates filled system. I don't see the logic.
my system is fully and only fish food and the main input. with now and den additions of iron. and everything grows wonderful. but nuff bout that on to the pics

Wow been a month already.. well I decided that now is a great time to share an update.

amm 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrates 20ppm
ph 7.1
EC ...? meter not working... o well.

So far it been 5 months since I removed any solids from the system nor did I do any filter clean out nor water changing. And still no nasty scent no fish deaths and the fishes are happy as ever. Crystal clear waters oh 1 thing I never buffered my system pH within it time peroid as well. coming to the plants.. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
