I may need to redo my calculations but I'm thinking a 1000gph pump would do fine. Right now a small 200gph or so is keeping the water moving, but the head height is a bit much for that pump. There is no aeration of the the water in the fish tank just what splashes into the sump from the outflow of the RFF.

Actually looking into a 2700gph pump. The other one I have had read reviews that it looses power fast on changing head heights. Max was 10ft on that one the 2700 one is still doing around 1200 a 6.5ft

But with the 2700gph pump you get a 1 year warranty and more flow. Im headed more towards the CHOP 2 with this system now and wanting the higher flow.

Still nothing going on right now. Pump in and out of stock in less than 2 days, slightly pissed. back in stock time was 07/30 actually 07/31 and out of stock by noon on 08/31

Did add 10 feeder goldfish so far and they have disappeared into the depths of the ibc. A few hours later no floaters so they are ether dead on the bottom stuck to the SLO intake or still alive.

OK new pump in the mail.

Broke down and paid the extra $15 to just get it off of amazon. Should be here either Monday or Tuesday (got to love speedship...) I also got a cheap UV filter to at least see what is going on in the tank until I get the grow beds up. Out of the 10 feeder gold fish I put in there are 2 that i know of that are dead. I may be able to see the others now.

Pump arrived yesterday while I was out of town. The uv clarifier showed up Friday and has been going since then. Of course I get back home when it is night and can't tell if it did anything.

Pictures from Friday.

For a pump that I paid extra for to get it here I have been busy as hell to even hook it up. I did dunk it in the sump to see of what power it has. Looks like it was boiling. Fittings are 30mm and 25mm barb(1-1/4 or 1") with a 1-1/4" right from the pump. Can either be used wet or dry.

Maybe tonight I can get some king of manifold made for the output of the pump. Looking to go up from pump to a Tee then two elbows with ball valves facing towards the IBC tank for flow adjusting.

Grow beds will [S]finally[/S] maybe put in this weekend. If I could fit 2x8 8ft long in my car I would have gotten these done sooner.

Busy still. Here is my plumbing setup for the manifold. Check valve for preventing back flow into sump. I am wanting to try using spa / hot tub jets but have them under the water level a few inches. The check valve may need a re design or just not used. So far just sending flow to fish tank at about 1/3 from closed on the ball valve. Plenty of power in the pump for upgrades or trying towers.

I got the wood today for use on the grow bed frames. The rain has kept me for actually assembling anything other than the manifold for the lines to the grow beds and the sump. Still looking for decent but cheap spa jets. Pump has plenty of power to shot a stream of water from 0head to over 6ft(say 2m) in to the air and on full flow the 2" plumbing from RFF to sump is not large enough to handle the amount going through it. Overkill but pleased.

Does the UV effect the good bacteria? Or, since they are "fixed" on things, will they still thrive.

I have read around several forums that the UV clarifiers will pretty much kill everything off in your water. The bio-filtration is not effected in filters/grow beds because of the good bacterial is on everything. I don't see a lot of others using of them in AP because of the questions of harming good bacteria and if they are used it is only for a short time. The whole "cover fish tank from sunlight" prevents needing to use UV. I just switched out the small pump I had and ran it on my main pump last night. More flow through the clarifier should help remove the green quicker. 18W UV rated to 1800gph

Also A few of the feeder goldfish have made there way into everything. SLO intake tube came off and they are in the RFF and sump. These feeders are living off the bugs and I give food twice a week. Some of the fattest goldfish I have seen for being the length of a thumb. There are like 5 that I have seen at once. 2 that I know are dead for sure.

I need to look into some kind of filtration now. After the UV filter doing its thing I have brown water that has like fine dust floating in it. Grow Beds need to be built faster.

Here is a fat tiny goldfish living off the bugs and whatever. Found in the RFF. I also added another 15 goldfish to the fish tank, now only if I could see them. They are tiny only 1-1.5"
