Are you human?: Resistence is futile

As my two boys are a lot like me it was inevitable that they would get their own systems... i had promised a while a ago but until now it wasn't a priority.

Recently they have been designing their own systems whether that be drawn or even using minecraft (what ever that game is).

So i couldn't resist building them their own systems.

Here are some progress shots of the two barrel systems...

Nice work, I'm sure they'll love them. I love that they have been designing their systems by hand or in Minecraft, my 5yo has been 'designing' the system she wants when she's older, and it inevitably involves dinosaurs somewhere in the design, lol.

Great stuff!

Bell siphon>?
I'm curious as to how long it takes to cycle and wat the magic number of fish you can have in such a small system.
Gold fish?

no bell... running constant flood as there is not enough room in the barrel for the drain cycle... (no hole in stand pipe either)

i would expect cycle time would be roughly the same for a larger system but i will seed with water from my system to assist :D

as for number of fish... we will be throwing in half a dozen goldfish each but i would still use the 1:25 fish to growbed ratio if growing out to plate size i.e. silver perch

My kids had fun painting a blue barrel with their hand prints the other day - didn't look half bad either - just using sample pots from a paint shop.

So you can grow edible fish in these? How many ?>

picked up the remaining parts yesterday and got Dillon's system finished...

its now in the greenhouse cycling... i'll seed it with more fish funk and water from my system and transplant a heap of lettuces from my little green forest...

I'll get Riley's done today after work, they are both very excited and should be getting gold fish soon
