Thanks Sriprasad :) It's only had plants in for a month, but the fish have been in there for 6 months so there was some good bacteria growing already - sort of like reverse cycling ....I wouldn't recommend it :-| Unless you thrive on stress and the odd fish death or two ;-)

My growbed is slightly *cough* over-engineered, and I think I could have had this up and running much sooner if I hadn't let my father get involved haha. But it was nice to see him have a project to work on, and he will get to enjoy some of the fruits of his labour this week when I take a box of greens to his place.

Siiiiigh...

It's been a long time between updates for me. Mainly because I've been working my backside off and also waging a war of epic proportions against caterpillars, aphids and god knows what else in my previously bug-free yard...

The tomatoes, whilst fruiting prolifically, have been probably 70% unusable thanks to serious bug damage. Silverbeet is rather unhappy too. Bugs, plus a definite magnesium deficiency are to blame. Time for some epsom salts!

I also lost every single one of my brand new lettuce seedlings that had popped up, to 'something' completely overnight.

I've started cleaning it all up now, and have planted a few different things, I'm thinking of ripping the tomatoes out and just replacing it with some more greens. The new additions are eggplants and lebanese cucumbers. Fingers crossed they go OK. In my dirt garden I'm getting good numbers of awesomely cute little purple stripey greek eggplants. Beans in the AP continue to go great guns and I will be planting some more for sure!

I'm looking forward to a new crop of lettuces. Even if I did have to go and buy seedlings from Masters in the end.

Beetroot are in the dirt garden at the moment and I'm hoping they survive whatever ninja bug wiped out the lettuce!

I'll get on my phone shortly and post some picture updates too :-)

Hi Kat, I just spent the last hour or so enjoyably reading through your AP journey. Well done you! I have recently caught the AP bug and have got my first system up and cycling - can't wait to get my trout fingerlings! Very excited today to see tiny watercress seedlings popping up in my continuous flood bed - I scattered the seeds 8 days ago, a bit dubious that they would come up through the 10-20mm gravel. The beetroot seedlings popped up in the main ebb & flood grow bed two days ago.

I was just tidying up in the 'dirt' garden today cutting back the rampant lemon balm. I would suggest getting the lemon balm out of your main grow bed and into a separate one. It is possibly worse than mint in its spreading habit and may take over and be a pain to keep under control.

I love your pictures and the growth in your GB is impressive. I only planted mine a week ago and still run outside a couple of times a day to see how much the lettuce and spinach seedlings have grown.

I look forward to seeing more updates.

Cheers

Jo

These aren't AP but they are oh-so-cute. Nearly wiped out by me not treating the powdery mildew - oops.

New butter beans doing well, but they need staking.

Vast majority of fish have survived. I decided it was best if I didn't count them...

I'm on a mission to get some trout fingerlings this week. I'm thinking just 10 since I don't have my big tank online, and my lack of employment right now means it's not going to be online until I'm back to the grindstone :-/

That water level looked like mine when I came back from holidays. I'm glad the fish were okay.

My next project before I go away next is to hook up the float valve.

I'm sure you'll sort out the job situation in no time. :)
