Hiya Ben, great work spreading the AP word and your set up looks awesome, well done.
Thought of staining a table or two jarrah colour?
Out of curiosity how much of your AP produce do you use in the kitchen compared to what you need to buy in?

Thanks Skeggley!

Once we hit 12 months I'll probably look at sanding back reclaimed timber and staining. Really wanted to test how it held up, plus time and budget restraints on opening meant it got pushed back.

In terms of produce, we produce about 90% of our own salad greens, 80% of our own herbs, and say 10% of our tomatoes. This probably saves me $20-40 per week, as a minimum. Plus I "sell" about $20 worth of watercress to my F&V supplier (selling produce, does that make me "commercial" ahaha ha). So net savings to business is around $1k-2k. Easily pay off system in first year, and then will take care of electricity second year.

But the freedom it gives me to "go the extra step" is also a major consideration. Being able to garnish dishes straight from the garden, or adding a salad with ingredients straight from the garden as an extra flourish, at no cost, is extremely exciting. For example this picture here is a sandwich platter for a bus group. Only paid for sandwiches, but as it's no cost and adds so much, I made a salad from something I picked an hour before they arrived. That's pretty special:

Also remembering the AP component is still pretty "Mickey Mouse", and isn't a serious amount of space yet. The plan is to have a 100sqm green house once time and budget permits. At that point I start selling produce both on site and to my F&V bloke, as well as supplying more for the cafe. I believe I can easily get it to have income/savings for the business of $500.

This doesn't take into account the tourism aspect of generated interest currently, and in the future.

Once I get things online like Shark-Aponics, get eel feeding, Barra, and giant freshwater prawn fishing, this will allow me some momentum to really get the ball rolling.

I though this might be of interest to you:

Jaymie seems to be selling some large fish.

And I think you're due for an update.

Apologies BYAP forum members, have been a bit slack! Had a couple FB PM's telling me off for said slackness ahaha, so thought I better post....

Nothing that new unfortunately, so haven't really felt need to post... And have been busy so haven't been on much. Tapatalk also changed how the format was which frustrated me.

Did get given a 2500L AQ tank, but don't know if it is big enough for Shark-Aponics, which is the next project, so unsure exactly what will happen with it.

Hope everyone is well!

The "DWC" Bed (I use that term loosely, it's a couple off cuts of styrofoam with mint and watercress growing nuts).

Cherry tomatoes going nuts, as always. The yellow pear cherries seem to be liking the conditions at the moment. This is what's left after picking 140 of them on Saturday for a function. Which is a cool feeling.

One of the yabbies in the DWC bed. I constantly find baby yabbies when harvesting watercress, which is awesome, as I assume if they are breeding away, they are happy with the conditions.

My Amaranth field, chooks and pigs love it, plus I use it in salad mix, stir frys and smoothies. Be aware, it "volunteers" EVERYWHERE!

That's it for now!
