Yes they are aphids.

Hmm that fish doesn't look very healthy. Which I guess is no surprise being its dead and all.

Good luck with the cafe. Up your way you should have locally grown Austrlian Cypress Pine which being naturally rot resistant would be a good material to make GBs, FTs and furniture out of.

Don't know how much real raw timber we'll use, hard to get unless you know someone. I've tried hitting up farmers, but usually timing is an issue. A place I asked about the other day had chopped up and mulched two huge silly oaks. I almost cried.

Thanks for best wishes!

Yes, hmmm searching forum tonight for aphid control! At least they are only on my rose bush atm, may be able to nip them in the bud! Though I perhaps think in reading if I remember other peoples experiences :/

Yes, fish was quite sickly and quite dead. It may have to do with stress and temperature variations, finally bought a thermometer, and it's 19 during day and down to 11 in morning...

Yeah I KNOW.

I missed a truck load of Elm the other day. They first said I could have it. Trying to do the right thing I spoke with the contractor to organise how I could get the wood and not get in their way and he said come back later. When I did it was on fire :upset:

Not that I was in the position to grab them but I recently saw (last week) two massive piles of Monterey Cypress burnt. Stacks of millable timber and loads more fire wood, such a waste.

That being said I can get cypress pine down here for about $800/m3. Up your way you should be able to get it a bit cheaper than that. I don't know what you plan but using up a pack of timber that is 1.5-3m3 is not hard once you get started.

Yeah we are more going down the "re-purposeing" road, using everyday things that get thrown out. Now when I build my bar (that's next project), that'll have raw timber :)

Found this interesting, especially after hearing all about it in Ryan's forum "Chatterson Farms is born!".

it's about Brix readings

Are your other fish looking like that? It looks kind of like mine did when they got ich.

Have you got the keys for the cafe yet? Photos would be cool :)

You could run some narrow beds in front of some tables, or around the walls, so people could reach up and add a little basil to their pasta dishes or something! Or some corriander to add to a curry! Add some funky LED grow lights (proper ones, not the dodgy ones that don't work) over them, would be very cool. Plus the smells of the fresh herbs would go through the cafe.

Or put some in the kitchen under the grow lights where customers could see, have some pots of basil/parsley/thyme growing out the back, and keep rotating them inside as the chef's use it up. Customers could see the herbs growing super fresh, and chefs would have it all on hand, so tastier in the cooking.

If you had a pretty tank inside, kids could watch the fish swimming around.

I've seen Ick on aquarium fish, it was so "growthie" (not a word I know, but best I got). And yes lots of integration with aquaponics, working on designs as we speak. Will post some photos in a minute

View from the front, courtyard will be nice once we've finished. Aquaponics most likely destination is in courtyard, integrated with couches/booth style seating on outer edges

I'll be the proud owner of a very Australian thing, a giant object. It's an udder. There was a tv show with said udder in it that was filmed in the town.

Stu, if you see this, Colum got some "Oasis" cube things for growing from seed, I know I could google and will if needed, but do you have a reliable source for these?

How many do you need?

Depending on the type they come in boxes of about 3000-5000 :D

I can sell you some of mine. I'm getting some sort of commercial system going this year without fail so I'll be ordering more.

If one of the 10 inquiries I'm feidling at the moment turn in to a real offer for a full scale commercial system I don't mind passing on supplies to fellow forum members. If they don't I'll be starting a small (read tiny) commercial system and I'll need the income from the sales to help make ends meet :(

The ones I have are the 5225s. Which are relief cut 25mm cubes

I'll sell them for:

:funny1: $0.08/cube
:funny1: $10/tray of 162
:funny1: $7.5/tray for multiple trays

The trick though is the postage. They weigh stuff all but are rather bulky. From memory sending to Adelaide was $13 for five trays.

Hmm, 5 trays should get me started, then go from there, can you give me dimensions so I can try and quote? Or am I being to tricky? Are these good in regards to growing from seed for both of us to go to the trouble?
