There is something about digging potatoes out of the ground that for me makes gardening even more special; like finding gems in dirt. Congrats Gnoib. Hey, if I missed it sorry, how long from seed potatoes to new potatoes did this take?

You are right, its like digging for gold.

I planted the next batch of potatoes. This time the seeders came from my own harvest.
I think that is special and three times the fun.

While I was weeding around Road Side, I unplugged a baby Ponderosa.
My female dogs get all a Nunkin Cherry planted on top of them, so the Cherries have names.

I stuffed the little bastard into one of the Aquaponic beds in the Wintergarden.
That was a week ago and it looks like it is doing well.

Growing a Ponderosa Pine in a Aquaponics grow bed is possible a first.

Lets do it

I hope the crazy weather thingy is over. Monday night the temp drop to 25 degrees F. My out side potatoes and the grapes got some damage. Now it is 89F, 100 for the weekend.

I took the self watering pots idea and developed my own system and go hydroponics with it. My Aquaponics system is doing so well right now, that I will not add anything to it.
I used under the bed storage bins I had, the pot size for the plants is 6 inches, water source will be a bucket, with lid and bio fertilizer enriched water. I still have a small pond pump, that will have a timer, that will several times per day fill the trays, drain back into the bucket.
I am not concerned about UV, the green house siding has UV filter.

Looks good gnoibs . Algae growing in the clear tubing and containers can become a problem, might want to cover parts that are exposed to light.

Perfect Gnoib. I am definitely going to give the a whirl.

I thought about that. Biggest problem will be to keep temp down, due to sun. I probably will use some alu-foil on the sides.

The ropes do not work they stretch to much. Will get some chain.
As of now I have 60 dollar gringo in it.

Hmm, probably just as well the weight is going to be up there pretty high.

Chained everything up.
Stuffed some plants into pots and lets see what happens.
Its toasty at the present, 97F.

Up date on the potatoe tower.
The plants have now reached the very top of the barrel. The barrel is now 80% full of dirt.
I will add 6 to 8 more inches of dirt and than let the plants do their trick.

What ya do with that?

Plugged all the holes with fiberglass and than buried in the hole I had.
The hole was 3 times to big and needed some serious backfill.
The fill is from my old riding arena, I am not allowed on a horse any more because of TBIs and so no more use for it.
Its crusher sand, that compacts nicely.
The tub comes with an insulation cover.
For this year no fish, I would like to find out if I can keep this tub ice free with a floating 1500 watts stock tank heater.
The area around the tub will get covered with weed cloth and than with 3/4 inch road base gravel.
I get 15 tons of gravel Friday afternoon.
After that I will think about the rest of the story. Would like to built a little water world around it.

If there were not that little problem of the very harsh winters, with up to -25F and windchills in the -40. I will think about it.
