Hi folks... Started the build on the new AP system that will have 2 x 1000L FTs driving the system with a few different types of growing methods.. Not 100% sure on the grow bed layout yet.. Need to see what happens with the FT & filters first

Haven't made much headway other than sorting out where the FTs & filters will go & extending the 2 hoop houses to cover them..
Started setting up the tanks & filters last week & here's a quick look at where the first part of the build is up to..

Have hit a small snag though, pipes are too small for the 2000LPH I want to put through the 1000L tanks.. Thanks for pointing out the blindingly obvious before I went to far Paul :thumbleft:

Have decided to up size the pipe & here's a dodgy sketch of the 3 options I'm thinking of..

Was hoping to get one tank up & running this weekend, such is..
Cheers all..

Good to see you are getting a start on it. Wish I could come up and help but work gets in the way eh.
I would think option B would be better for the RFF to work well, but no expert

Great to see your progress!

I can vouch for 90mm RFF vs 2x50mm RFF - I think the flow is smother.

Hi Rob, good to see a start on the new system.

Watched the video yesterday and wondered why you were using 40 mm pipe instead of 50 mm on the system.
Plan be would be the one, as you have seen from my photos of my RAS I run the two 50 mm DW outlets into a 65 mm DW pipe before the RFF. Have had no problems with the flow and keep a constant height between units.

Look forward to more videos. Cheers

Cheers folks :thumbright: Think I will go with the 90mm set up, good thing some more uniseals turned up ;) Off to the big B to look for fittings & grab some pipe soon..

Was just playing with the fittings that came with the system Bear.. Had planed to up scale it to 50mm & thought that would take the flow but Paul pointed out that I would have no wriggle room with the 2 lines running into the RFF..
The 2 holes in the base of the RFF drum will be either plugged or used as an overflow for the FTs..

BTW, Like Mantis I'm no expert :dontknow: & don't pretend to be folks ;) Am a newbie still compared to Mantis, Bear & most you folks here :thumbleft:

Cheers folks..

Drilled out the holes in the FT's from 64mm to 76mm to take 2" Uniseals.. Have 50mm pipe running down to 90mm storm water pipe & will run that through to the RRF..
Luckily most of the bits came as extras with the system so just needed to buy the pipe, 90mm T's & the 50mm to 90mm reducers..

Cheers folks..

I may have missed it but I didn't see any mention of expected flow through those pipes (either 50mm or 90mm).

It is all very well to offer advice as to which configuration will "work" but I would just be guessing without knowing the flow.

Having said that option B is unlikely to be a good idea because the flow will not be enough for the solids to be guaranteed of being transported through the first section of 90mm before it joins with the flow from the second tank.

If it is then the friction losses from the flow through the 50mm pipe will be huge.

Complete newbie, but in B why would you use 90mm from base of first pipe and not only after addition of second pipe?

Still yet to build my first system, but keen to keep asking questions.

Martin.

Have also got an inspection opening at the end of the pipe so the solids can be pulled through using a rag/brush on a cord to the RFF if need be..

Cheers mate :thumbright:

Cost of the 50mm pressure pipe & fittings is the main reason.. $26 for 3m of 50mm & $9.50 for 3m of 90mm..

Off to suss out your thread mate,

Cheers Martin..

Opps

Why are you using pressure pipe and fittings rather than DWV?

More options with fittings with the Pressure Stuart + I received a load with the system when I bought it..
Also recall reading somewhere when I first started out that DWV doesn't last as long or well when exposed to UV..
Probably wrong on that call though ;)
