Good start. 7.8 aint bad. Do you have a gravel guard...can't tell by pics but it looks like just a bell. Be careful mixing baitstore minnows and trapped. I always get some kind of parasite when when mixing them.

Okay. Got the hydroton topped off, beds are planted and pressure lines done. Gonna have to seriously consider a sump tank as 2 bed draw a whole heap of water from the tank. Anyhow rairdog was asking about media guards

Flack i hate trying to post photos. Even when i downsize the to 10% of original the site tells me they are still to big

Rairdog they are set up to draw though the original bunghole of the barrel. .75 threaded pvc thru the knockout plug into a short section thru a 2"adapter into a 3" street elbow. With some window screen on the bottom to act a stop for the media since I was unable to cut a piece to fit the way I'd like to.

The main thing is to be able to get you hand in there to clean out any roots that clog it up. I tried screen and it was a pain. Plus you will get solids and sediment at the bottom of you growbeds.

I'll try and get some more pics of the system Monday as well as some updated water tests.

On the plus side swmbo saw a video on dutch bucket tomatoes and wants me to set some up. Also she'd like me to grow some edible fish that the grandson could actually catch when they're big enough. Looks like i need to find me an IBC and a sump tanks

Another update
Ammonia @-.25
nitrite 0
nitrate .25
I'm hoping this is my plants eating everything that is available
I went with strawberries (already have fruit set), tomatoes, peppers, broccoli and head lettuce with some wheat growing in 4" pots where the water fills the GB's. The temps here may be playing a role as well since this week we went from 85f on monday to 30 on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Ronmaggi. In your thread there was mention of ironing used to take nitrite out of a system any idea on where I could find that info since my original water came from my well and I can build battleships from the iron in my water.
