Hi! I come from a tiny island in southeast asia known as Singapore. I currently own a DIY system and wish to expand it but require some insights from you guys in case i oversee anything! As of now I own a small system consisting of a fish tank and 2 grow beds.

My plans for expansion consists of two parts:
1) adding a 55 gallon barrel as the Fish tank and using the current tank as a sump. Adding a swirl filter as well to allow maximum stocking.
2) adding a nft system along my balcony that stretches for about 2ml meters or so.

Please help me judge and see if there might be any problems with such a set up before i start building on it! :)

A Radial Flow Filter would be a better choice for removing the settleable solids - they're slightly better than a swirl filter at this. The NFT might need some sort of fines filter or the roots may be smothered with suspended solids (not a good thing), takes a while to get bad but the roots eventually turn brown and rot. If you can run the water through a grow bed on the way to the NFT that should be enough. Otherwise you can add a Static Upflow Filter and it will get the job done.
