spent this afternoon figuring out how to add my inspection/treatment openings to the FT side panels....

had to cut some 2 x 4's and add access openings so I can look down into the FT sides and add termite treatments if necessary...

some sections, behind the GB and far right side will be screwed to stay....the rest will be removable

step by step.....

worked fast today as we are now having thunder storms, so everything has come to a halt....

did manage to mock up the FT and see how it looks.... making sure I have all the inspection ports and and access to every part of the interior of the walls...

just a quick update on the two existing GB's... the second GB is almost full of media...

still fighting high PH and Ammonia.... havent fed the fish for days... and swept the bottom of the tank and it was really clean... so I guess Im having to cycle the system from scratch this time with fish....

having 1800 gallons (6813 L)or so of water makes a water change tough....

have around 10 nitrates... nitrite is still holding at .5... ammonia is at .5 ... PH is still around 8

I have been running the system continuously for 2 to 3 hours at a time.. mostly in the am to help bring the FT temp down a bit....

will keep plugging away and hope it cycles soon..

getting closer.... got all the wall skins cut and installed... then had to take all the outside skins off to coat them with polyurethane for moisture protection

got all the access ports cut and placed.... I can get to every corner and bottom plate section in all the FT walls, so will be able to spray in termite killer if needed.... every year I will be able to remove the fT inspection panels and sides from the GB's and check to make sure there isnt any infestations..

Thanks Ian

my feelings are

over engineer it and build it once instead of under engineering it and building it twice ...

got just about everything ready for tomorrows fish tank replacement....

got the barrels setup, got the air stones ready, got the pump ready....

finishing up the 2 x 6 top cap.... it serves two purposes... one to make the tank look good and it also helps reinforce the top of the fish tank....

got the top cap polyed and will be dry by morning....

got the FT traded out yesterday..... everything went pretty good... no major problems....

now everything is shiny and new, I still have some of the plumbing to re-locate and get the finish cap put on..... then I get to start the next two GB's....

there wont be a workshop next weekend due to other previous obligations, so it will give me a couple weeks to get ready to add the new GH plastic....

then that gives me the rest of the summer to putts around and finish all the small details around the GH....

jT

Taking apart the old FT..... taking off top cap, dis-assembling the temp plumbing..
Image

All the barrels are ready for the fish... air stones in each one.... should be a fun experience, for me, not necessarily for the fish :)
Image

Water getting low and fish are starting to school up and wonder whats going on...
Image

What a weird sight... NO FT..... a few parts from the plumbing nightmare....
Image

Re-working the base and making it a little larger...... lots of plants on the left ready to go in when the system is ready...
Image

New FT walls in place.... finishing up the inside walls and almost ready for the liner.....
Image

you can see my removable panel..... will be able to get to every spot inside the FT walls
Image

You can see the structure inside the walls, fish and remaining water in the barrels
Image

Filling the tank.... I folded both corners to the ends... to have room for the uniseals on the sides (east and west sides)
Image

Toe shot for the foot fetish people out there LOL.... :wave1:
Image

When the FT was removed, I ran the deep sump pump outlet under it.... that eliminates one pipe going around the FT and goes straight out of the GH, easy to get to and easy to fix if needed
Image

The Deep sump pump output pipe coming out the west side of the FT
Image

Still have to rework the pump plumbing but this is the overall view looking west...

its been raining the last couple days.. so havent got much done... cleared up a little this afternoon and made a little progress

put the west side uniseals, and overflows in and got the south and east side top caps on the FT

hope to start planting in the next week or so... the PH is starting to come down and ammonia is starting to level out....

during the whole process of installing a new ST, rebuilding the main GB's and installing a new FT, I lost one little bluegill...... Im very pleased with that.... it could have been a lot worse....
