Clint,

Glad you are doing good and still going at it. If you get the time, can we get an update on your system? Its always interesting to see how it grows and changes over time based on your needs and experiments.

Do you still spawn catfish in your 5000 gallon fish tank? I have been working more and more with native species and trying to phase out tilapia completely and any experience you have had would be very beneficial to me and probably some others.

Hi Brian,

The green house and AP system has been on the back burner since the fire..... a lot of PVC and other supply's for projects were destroyed....... and the shop inventory, cleanup, and rebuild, had been the focus till now......

the whole system is in need of a lot of maintenance, and a few repairs, and a lot of small things need to be built / added / finished, and some larger projects planed, and materials bought for them. We will be doing some of this in the next few mo.....

about 18 mo ago, a water hose popped off its brass connector, and filtered city water ran into the big tank all night, and the next morn about 15+ Catfish were dead... left about 5-6..... so i have not seen any catfish fry this year....

i need to get with Hunter, and get some small catfish that he has, if he still has them from last fall when i talked to him last

sorry to hear about that.

The channel cats seem to be the most vulnerable to chlorine. A lot Moreso that sunfish and tilapia anyway.

Wow. I just found this site and read through all four pages and it was great to see your system from start to finish. Sorry to hear about the fire and ensuing work cleaning it all up. I can only imagine how stressful that must have been.

My family just moved from Dallas to East Texas and the land we bought has a pond with catfish in it. You're welcome to as many of them as you'd like if they'll help you out at all.

Also, I'm a newbie to all this and trying to learn and it seems to me a good way to build some experience would be to help out someone who knows what you're doing. You're last post you mentioned needing to do a bunch of maintenance and if a second set of (inexperienced) hands would help please let me know.

Adam

Hi Adam,

We have been doing some of the repairs to the sump tank and grow bed system over the last few days trying to stop the overflow leaks that are making the system have unstable / unsustainable water levels.....

still need to back flush the blue biofilters above the tank again....

still need to work on several improvements etc...

a few small catfish to add to the outside system would be nice...

you are welcome to come out some afternoon soon to see the system....

if ya want to help, than that needs to be scheduled with what is going on around here.....
