any paint will do, just make sure you paint before you put water and fish in, (Just the out side)
shade cloth would be better than nothing, the less light the better because it limits algae growth.

Thanks to a tip from aLostHippy I'll be getting a 4800lph pump tomorrow from a supplier in Maroochydore.

Might try and grab a timer and gravel this week as well, then I can start cycling my system.

my system is also a IBC setup. I just finished today insulating the FT. I used 50mm polystyrene and wrapped the whole thing in black shade cloth. Will post some photos in my system thread soon. Im going to try and shade my GB somehow but i havn't quite decided how to do it. I have a couple of ideas but my decision may be made on cost rather than what i want to do.
would be interested to see your system once its shaded. Photos!

to rosie and lv..if you are in need of an ibc..

this posting was posted a few months ago.... i picked up 2 of them... they have had sodium lactate in them ..but well worth the price...

glad to help lv..

I'm posting on behalf of Peter Ford (Vice President of ANGFA Qld). He has some 1000 litre food grade IBCs - easy to plumb, ideal for breeding and growouts (Click here if you don't know what they are).

Brisbane Northside, but Peter might be able to sort something out for delivery.

$100 each.

Phone Peter Ford 0402317204.

I've got some more work done to my set-up, the stand pipe has been cut to length with a small cut-out to a llow adjuctments to the water level. The outer pipe that the gravel goes against is nearly finished being sectioned.

Also put an edge around the grow bed on the IBC frame, the fish tank has been levelled and filled with water. Hope to get some gravel by the weekend so I can start cycling the system.

I'll try and get some more photos tomorrow.

Made some more progress today, installed the pump and set up the piping. Done a test run this afternoon and am pretty happy with it all.

So some photos of the system so far.

Sorry about the size, I should have linked the thumbnails. For some reason I can't adjust them.

Got my gravel today, started washing it I'm hating it already.

Think this could take a while.

Hmmm, I thought I washed my gravel pretty well. After filling the grow bed and starting to cycle the system the water has gone rather murky.

At present the grow bed fills in about 5 minutes and the pump is running for 15 minutes. Now to see how long it takes to drain.

Water is a little cloudy, I thought I washed the gravel well enough. Will this be a problem when I want to add the fish?

The strapping and rods on the IBC have certainly settles more than I expected, hope this doesn't come back to bite me.

Final one for the moment, the pump I went with.

That's a very neat little system! What kind of fish will you be putting in? (I hope this hasn't been asked before - I couldn't find it..)

If you're putting in goldfish then the cloudiness isn't much of a problem; in fact I think most fish wouldn't mind. But I could be wrong!

I'll probably put in Jade perch, I'm hoping the cloudiness wont be a problem. I don't think fish live in pristine clear water in the wild. No doubt I could be very wrong though.
