Hi everyone,

I live in Brisbane and have been meaning for a while to post my new system, i have attached a picture of my previous single IBC system (picture taken in July 14).

The new system has 2 1000l tanks, 2 100l redclaw tanks, 4 grow beds (with 1000l sump), double dutch bucket system and NFT.

Tank 1 includes - 20-25 jade perch which are averaging 10-15cm (should be ready to harvest by Christmas).

Tank 2 includes - 50-60 silver perch fingerlings (only one died in last fortnight - which i am happy about!!). I also have a 1 pleco and 6 bristlenose catchfish (babies) in.

2 100l tanks include - 8 redclaw crayfish in each tank (with plenty of hiding spots)

I have SLO in each 1000l tank which flows into a radial flow filter (similar to rob bobs setup) which then flows into a bio filter (with 25l of boss Bio media) and then flows into the 4 grow beds. All the piping is 50mm with 25mm into the grow beds. I have two outlets however in the radial filter (with one that directly flows into the sump). I found with the single outlet it couldn’t take the load of two 1000l tanks which caused the radial filter to overflow. The crayfish tanks flow direct into grow bed 1.

Both 1000l tanks and bio filter have venturis which i purchased from Rob Bob (works really well) and the crayfish tank (100l) have diy venturis i made (similar to rob bob diy venturi clips).

I am currently running Resun PG 10,000l pumps which runs the whole system with ease including all 5 venturis, Dutch bucket and NFT and i think has capacity for future expansion. Maybe not the best for power bill but lucky (250w pump) i have 5kw solar system for the house with a decent feed in tarrif.

I also have a resun LP40 air pump running (which i probably don't need with the amount of areation i get from the venturi, however will create a backup system which will utilise the airpump if the power goes off).

What am i growing?
Grow bed 1 - growing strawberries
Grow bed 2 - melons
Grow bed 3 - silver beet, rosemary, spring onion and chives
Grow bed 3 - Sweetcorn, bokchoi, brocoli and some chillies.
Media in Grow beds include - 3/4 bluemetal and 1/4 clayballs

Double Dutch bucket system, (x10) - tomatoes, capsicums and snow peas and beans
media - clayballs (keep it light)

NFT 3m system - Lettuce.
media - netpots (with clayballs)

There is a lot free space in there as you can see. I am currently propagating a variety of seeds in rock wool and hope to add more to each grow beds.

Below are some pictures pics of the build and progress pics (started building system late July), happy to answer any questions :) I have learnt a lot from this forum.

I think the bug has claimed another!

Looks awesome!

Don't worry about the murky water, it'll clear quickly enough.

Can you get to the grow beds at the back? Looks tricky.

I like your system Andrew. I especially like how compact the footprint is for the features you fit in there.

The murky water has completley cleared!!. There is enough room to walk to the back growbeds, there is about 50cm just enough room to get to the back tanks and grow beds.

I plan on building a hoop house over the top, using star pickets, 2inch rural pipe and shade cloth from summer.

Cheers

Andrew

Thanks, i am very happy with the additional NFT and dutch buckets i have added additional to the growbeds. I think the dutch buckets will come in handy especially for vegies that liket to climb and grow all over the place.

I'm only 3 mouths into my first AP system. I'm chopping at the bit to build a hoop house, move the AP system, and then take the time to improve upon it even more. I've learned a great deal from this site and the fine folks in the forums.
