Heres the start of my strawberry tower wicking bed come hydroponic set up
A 200 litre drum with 30 slots later plant pockets [see photo ]
With a milk crate wicking setup
The difference is theres a pump to feed the plants and a float valve [to top up the nutrients]
A tip if using wine bottles to make the holes fill them with water they cool quicker
Heers the first photo making the plant pockets

Looking good F&F :thumbright: . I saw a smaller version of this (white 20 L bucket in a GW?) in a pic of your system on a thread somewhere recently (medium system thread maybe :dontknow: ).

I reckon this larger blue barrel strawberry tower WB would be a lot less fuss and maintenance than my PVC pipe strawberry towers.

I will keep this in mind for my next system...

Can't wait to see this one up and running F&F. Can you describe how you are connecting it up and how it works? I really want to make one down the track. The property we are in the process of buying has a large ornamental pond outside the dining/kitchen which would be great to set up with some kitchen herbs and salad greens and one of your strawberry tower/barrel WBs. And my mind is awhirl with the possibilities for the disused herringbone dairy with a 8x1.5x1 metre concrete pit and 2000L stainless steel milk vat...

Man I would give my right knacker in fact you could have both  for a setup like that
The pit a giant fish tank and the vat I will take it off your hands   there was a bloke near shep with your set up just starting to set up and he got cancer and died I visited him he had great ideas

The tower in the bottom I have reservoir with a ball valve and a jeebo pump 17 watt it will run 24- 7 feeding neut to the plants
Stay tuned I will up date as things progress

We now have it filled and water flow now let it settle and planting

Makes sense to me. You don't see the bottomless bucket because he took it out but it was around the standpipe. He filled potting mix outside the bucket and sheep poo inside of it up to the standpipe. Once it was all filled he raised the bucket to the next level and did the same thing until the whole barrel was done.

Good idea may steal this one on down the road :headbang:
