Thanks gemmell... will do that once I start the system going...

Hundred wheelbarrows later... finally got one IBC growbed filled... still a bit more to do before I can start the system going... but I had some cabbage seedlings lying around (balance from planting the other AP system) so I figured I might as well planted it into the to-be growbed...

Well yes. If I was ever going to move it, I would probably cut the IBC and let it fall out. Or advertise on gumtree, "free blue metal, bring shovel and wheelbarrow and you move"...

Gee Ivansng

You are a pro with Google Sketch. Nice expanded system.
What are your final figures with all systems in place?

Mark

Shaker, it took me a while to get the hang of Google Sketch... but I guess the fact that I have used drafting softwares before helped a bit...

Well I have attached a new layout... Again... Things are evolving and changing constantly...
But at the moment, it will be
a 2000L fish tank
a 1000L IBC fish tank (the one closest to the 2000L round tank)
3x 1000L IBC growbeds
1x 500L BYAP growbed
5x 2/3 height blue barrels (about 135L each)
6x 1/2 height blue barrels (aboug 100L each)

so in total 3000L of water and about 4700L of filtration... using the Aquaponics indexing valve to sequence fill the growbeds... 2000L will be mainly ornamental kois and silver perches and 1000L will be trout in winter... idea is that silvers will slow down in winter hence trout will continue to provide the ammonia source... in summer, the 1000L will be empty or maybe yabbies but something will minimal bioload....

Well the plan is for the 2/3 height drum to have dwarf fruit trees and the 1/2 height drums for anything else I can fit... possibly climbing plants as well so I can make use of the fence (not shown but really all sides are fenced)...

The built-in 3D "something" helps search for things... also I think earthbound is getting some commonly used items in AP drawn up...

No worries... will PM you my contact details...

Who the hell washes gravel :D

Also, why would you use a multitude of blue barrels, when 1 IBC would do close to the same job? Barrels add so many more points of failure. Especially if using IBC's already.

Hmm... I think the question is "Who the hell doesn't wash gravel?" And I am quite sure many could answer that correctly....

Well the blue barrels are mainly for fruit trees and I would rather contain them in something smaller than an IBC... plus if they were all IBCs, I am quite sure I would be shorter by a few inches by the time I am done washing and shovelling gravel...

But yes, I am having second thoughts about blue barrels after some miscalculations in drain heights... but I am getting them sorted... so there will at least be 5 barrels in the system, but will possibly rethink the barrels and see which way to go...

But hey didn't you built your successful backyard AP from blue barrels????

Hi Ivan,

Looks good,

You certainly have gone to a lot of trouble on this one,What do you intend to grow in your IBC's apart from leftover cabbages?

Cheers.
