So here's an update with the 180w panel in position.
not hooked up yet, but still looks ok :D
noticed after a few hours in the sun there seemed to be a bit of condensation on the inside of the panel. Not quite sure how im going to get it out???
It also rained today and last night so I'll have to investigate if any water is getting in.

regards
Matt

Looks nice! I don't know what to tell you about the moisture. Can you put a vent on the bottom, something you can seal off later?

Hey,

Finally hooked up my solar charger and panel together with the battery and all is good.
Just need to get an inverter to hook up the 240v equipment and sit back an see how things go.

regards
Matt

Hey Matt
I see Jaycar Electronics are selling 200watt wind generators for $400.00, this coupled to your system may allow you to run continuously without mains power? This will depend on how much wind you get at night in your area.

yeah I know :D I saw it the other day and was very excited till some told me that there was law in built up areas to be able to use them. :upset:
Will have to check the local council and with my neighbors to see if they do not mind
think its got something to do with noise it can create.

What noise could a wind turbine make?

Whopp, whopp, whopp....

The blade stalls as it passes in front of the turbine pole.....

The wind turbine installed at the "Holmes-A-Court" project is a "reverse" turbine design...

i.e.. it faces away from the wind, rather than into it... so the wind flows around the turbine pole, and the "curved" blade design prevents them stalling.... almost completely silent...

Hey Matt

How has the solar system been going? I am very interested in doing something similar. Has it been a success? What would you do different next time?

Thanks

Sorry guys,
Been a while since I've posted. Being in Airconditioning/refrigeration it hard to keep on posting all the time when the summer arrives. In saying that, its the reason why i love aquaponics, all I have to do is throw a handful of food and the veggies take care of themselves.
All is very well with the solar system.
A couple of month ago after 2 days of no sunlight the alarm on the inverter was going of because of low voltage. Luckily I wired the air pump directly to the battery so that air will always pump until the battery is dead. Will have to add some extra storage to get over the winter running the pump and the air pump. Otherwise the battery is charged in a few hours
with only a 300 GB it did very well raising about 30 trout (still have about 4) Once the trout got to about 300 grams the filter started to struggle with the load. I think that I could spread the water flow with another 300 GB to increase the systems capacity and area to produce veggies.
Have found on ebay a company that is selling 100Ah AGM batteries for $150.

Regards
Matt

When the alarm sounded, did you stop feeding them? Or was the water still pumping to the grow beds some?
