Hey Guys.
I have started to build my 3rd system.
It's actually gonna be smaller than the second, bucking the trend I think, but I am limited by time and space at the moment (the 4th will be huge)

Without further ado, some pics, I know we all love pics !

The tank, 280 litres, small but perfectly formed :)

Image

One of four growbeds, 135 litres, nice and deep and cheap.

Image

My little garden.

Image

and finally for now, my "find" of the day, digital timer, 20 programs a day and each day individually programmable, 420 Baht, around 10 Euros, minimum setting 1 minute, am very pleased to find this.

Image

Not gonna do CHIFT PIST this time, based purely on the fact I don't think I'm gonna stay in this house too long.

Wanted to make a new system, but keep it small and as simple as possible, will see how I get on.

Gonna do catfish again, it's a small tank and I know from experience Catfish survive very poor conditions, Tilapia are fussier !

Chiang Mai used to be the capital of Thailand and therefore is quite a big city compared with Surin, it's been so easy to source the stuff I've needed, only taken 2 days to get almost everything.
PH of the well water is also much lower up here, 5.5 today, compared with 8.5 in Surin, looks like I will have the opposite problem, gonna look for some sea shells or similar tomorrow.

So.. this time, much smaller, absolutely no concrete in sight, but damn I'm still having fun with it :)

Cheers for now

Dui

Nice looking hardware,
Pity about the GF, :support:
At least the new one wont have to wash as much gravel. :)
Look forward to seeing the progress. :flower:

Chiang Mai is much nicer than Surin anyway. Where did you find the timer? Chockdee.

Decal,
Media will be river bed rock, nice and smooth and graded, unsure of the PH inertness though, hoping to go get some tomorrow, will take a PH kit with me.
The blue stuff I used before was mined in open quarries with explosives, nasty stuff to play with (the rock, not the explosives, I didn't do that bit by myself :p )

Also gonna try some experiments with Coconut hairs, that stuff is available in huge quantities here for almost no money.

Not made any progress really for a couple of days, RL comittments getting in the way again, *sigh*

Cheers for now.

Dui.

Aloha,
I admired your work on the earliert system and like the ideas you have started for the new one. I have a small system in the works so will be following your progress.

Great Job!

Thank you Charle.
Do you have a thread for your system yet?
Would be good to see what you are doing :)

Dui.

Some progress at last, RL can be a real pain sometimes !

I lied about not doing Chift Pist, bought a sump tank and 2 more growbeds, under them is 0.5cu/m of river bed rock.

Image

Tank raised, sump in place.

Image

I was very naughty and paid extra for "already clean media" - it was Thai clean though, not AP clean, so am flushing it a bit here.

Image

Will have to wash the next lot, but it isn't that bad and will be a lot easier than washing the blue stuff I had before.

Tried buying some ammonia without success today, then asked for urea... similar response, only tried one place, will try again tomorrow if I get time, am busy again tomorrow, at least in the morning, so this is it for now.

Cheers

Dui.

Skip

Took this the day I got it, it's still all shiney.
Had forgotten what it looked like when it was clean.

Abdul,
I don't think peeing is an option for me, I take meds for mild blood pressure.
AFAIK it's not wise to use pee from someone who takes regular meds.

I could ask my neighbour, but she already thinks I'm weird, that would seal it I think, hehehe.

Yep, that is very nice. :thumbright:
Had to laugh about asking the neighbor to pee in your system, I think your right that may get you a strange look. :laughing3:
Why not just stock it with fish and wait.?

If I can't get any amonia tomorrow, this is what I will do, but I found the Nitrite spike hard to get over last time, cycling with fish.
This being a small system, things should be easier, I can do much quicker water changes if necessary.

Didn't get much done today, plumbed the FT to GB overflow.

Image

Image

And smiled as the water started dribbling into the GB.

Image

Hoping to get at least 1 more GB online tomorrow and plumb the return to ST properly.
