Dude, money, house... settle down... Paige is here and she wants to play with your son.. hehe she says it often!

I think my first system will be 3 * round 400 Ltr tanks. 1 for a fish tank, 2 for growbeds... They selling them here for $230 each... but dont have the cash...

So my first system will be a wheelie bin and containers...

On the flip side, my in laws have 3 barra in a 250 litre blue barrel and a herb container(in Cairns)... they said they have never had more healthy herbs in their life.

Okay Mc :rr: , these are my preferences (in relation to your designs):

1) I like to be able to walk around the fish tank - this may be in your thinking but it looks on the drawings as if you've got to go round the GBs to get to either side of the tank

2) I like to have access to either side of the GBs - 1 metre wide GBs is difficult to reach over from one side when fully planted, need a minimum of 500mm spacing.

Apart from that, I like the setup very much

You may have factored these in, if so, disregard

Ok, these were taken 1 week ago....

3 growbeds are working and draining etc. 1 growbed to wash gravel for.

I do have a leak where the water drains from the growbed and thats something I am working on.

Also, I have since found that with all the rain we are having, they efficiently collect lots of water and my system almost overflowed, so i had to drill a hole in the top of the plastic of the tank to act as an overflow. Not sure how that will work in the future with some of my "good water" flowing onto the ground, something I have to think about. On the other hand my system is getting fresh water ... often. Only 1 thing I can do to compensate...

More fish I say...

Plan is to have 10 Redclaw and 10-15 Jade perch. See how the relationship goes and if its volitle, Ill happily have 20-25 Jade Pearch give or take the growbed size.

After this is set up, the next project is to make a NFT array to go on top of the tank as I have a view black NFT cups and 150mm pvc pipe...

Many thank must go to:

Aquamad for the tank and pvc pipe and growbeds.. you rock dude... I promise it will be successful!

My inlaws for supplying wood for the stand and gravel... and a saw that hasnt found its way back yet....

So far I think ive spent around.... $150.00 - $200.00 on the whole project.... I like it.... More pics comming soon as it is all hooked up and running now but you cant see that on the pics ive posted... my cameras being tempermental....

Fish and redclaw goes in, in 1 weeks time... Bout bloody time huh! (after 1.5-2 years of trying!

Macca (now living in North Qld)

With the setup so close to the fence, I can see a next-door neighbour, fish rod in hand, nibbling on the veggies as he tries to catch a few fish for dinner

Best you get him the complimentary BYAP stubbie holder and cap to make it look authentic

Nice setup :rr:

Just an update...

The system is now 100% complete. It has now been running 2 days without a hickup. Even though i havent fish in their yet, ill be getting some redclaw later this week.

I have been able to spike the system with water from my inlaws system, so i seem to have "green" things growing on the walls anyway.. sure to be a good sign .. i think..

Actually found a leech in one of the growbeds.. and a worm.. go figure.. the leech grossed out my wife. :-)

For redclaw, does anyone have any idea what to feed them and how much. I know they will eat anything, but the aim is to have 1 Kg of red claw in there.. and i ll say survival of the fittest,..

:rr:

Pictures coming later

Ok, Yesterday was a really good day...

Yesterday I went and got my fish from Tarzali Lakes. Im now the proud owner of 17 600-700 g Jade Pearch. I reackon they are larger then that though and I need to keep an eye on them and perhaps do a water change quickly as im not starying out with fingerlings....

The systems in full operation, the water has been spiked with water from another AP system for the last couple of "months" though, so im not starting out totally with no bacteria.

So I need to go out and purchase a test kit proto.

Pictures forthcoming!
