yes yes yes its time i told you all, i will be moving into a smaller house in Spearwood in the coming months, and so the next lot of trout will most likely have a new home :)

Im looking at building a CHIFTPIST, with 2 IBC fts, and 2 fgtrays, 700L ea, as GBs. the system will be on the nthrn sude of the garden, but FTs hidden behind the house so the wont get much sun (i.e. will do trout for longer)

i will have one for trout, one for perch, and when it gets to warm, fill the empty FT with perch fingerlings for the summer. Im over barramundi.

Qns for the gurus . .

How big does the sump have to be? will 800L be enough for 1400L GBs?
im thinking 30 fish each tank, am i pushing it?
If im pushing it, i will put a ABF in each FT. im thinking of using 150mm pvc pipe mounted up the guts of the IBC (i.e. 900mm long) with about 1000L of air into each, and filled with bioballs. will this provide much filtration, will it provide enough watermovement to aerate both tanks? could i put 40 fish each FT with ABFs in the middle?

SLO's - will 50mm pvc be adequate for the overflow?? should i do a SLO from one tankto the other? or join at the bottom?

ill put some site photos and plans up when ive made em :)

watch this space!

Dunno about the filtration stuff but will watch to see replies but the sump will be pushing it, unless you keep it topped up religiously
You could of course have one bed as constant flood and this one wont effect the sump level, then you would be good to go. :wave1:

Ahhh ok , I forgot you do timed flood and drain so constant flood wont work with one pump.
With one pump I do half and half constant flood and autosiphon at the moment (might change tomorrow hehe)

Yes it will.... just turn the standpipe upside down... so that the small drain holes are at the top instead of the bottom...

Works good if you need to flood the bed to help germinate new seeds...

Or flood the bed to get rid of slimey grubs....

It will convert any flood and drain "timed" bed into constant flood... the water wont drain below the two little holes in the standpipe once the timer/pump is off...
