Whats 2 fgtrays?

Is the volume of the growbeds the actual volume of the media?

Hmmm, as was mentioned earlier, perhaps have one GB running Constantly flooded and the other on a siphon, that way your sump volume will be fine.. You will only need one pump for that..

Our chift pist system here has a 500L GB and 500L sump and we have to top up weekly. The other problem is that the sump may be a certain volume, but you can't use it all because the pump has to remain submerged..

Hmm ok, I will go back to the drawing board. The only reason I am hesitant to go cf in one bed is stagnant water sitting in the gravel. But I guess that over a cycle it will be flushed if I get a big enough pump.

There is also the possibility if using my existing ft as a sump, and getting one more IBC, so i have about 12-1400L of sump for 1400l gb. Also I'm not phased about regular topping up, did I mention the house has a freshwater well with a whopping great pump? The water coming out if it is drinking quality (apparently) so I will use that for AP.

Also has a pool (read: potential fishtank :shifty: )

In a constant flood bed if you have a 7mm hole near the bottom of the standpipe water is drawn from the bottom and top. Also you could put a bell over the standpipe with no end cap on it so all the water is drawn from the bottom

so with my successful caper into bell siphons (so far :shifty: ) have decided i will go for contant flood and 1 siphon bed, its what i have now and seems to be working real well so far :dontknow:

also working at BYAP on the 10th so will have some funds for a pump or soem goodies or something :)

water pump - im thinking i will need about 2000L/H @ a 1.5-2m height ( i will probs aim for 3000L, the more the merrier), any thoguhts??

turned the air pump i got for this systems on in my IBC the other day, then turned it back of . . .WAAAAYYYY to much air in there!
but will most likely used it for some ABFS, and diefinately in this system. my theory is if i keep the water well oxygenated, then they will last long enough when the power goes off so i can get home and turn the genny on :thumbleft:
had 15 or 20 trout go 9 ish hours no air last winter in about 800L of water

Hi, could anyone do a sketch of this? Is this proposing a conversion of a standard BYAP standpipe system? If so I would be interested as I have just switched to Constant flow and having GB drain from bottem of standpipe only sounds good.

it doesnt drain from the bottom only, but if your pumps shut down the water will drain out of the GB. also the bell is just a larger bit of pipe over the standpipe, with large holes drilled in the bottom only, so water is drawn form the bottom of the BG, up the middle and overflows over the standpipe :)
