Current build status of my system. Looking at stocking with fish in two weeks. Thinking of putting in rainbow trout. I'm going to put two more doors on the front with perspex portholes to allow light and easy viewing. Also thinking of putting in some decent solar powered lighting.

Looking good...

What sort of wood is it? Will rain runoff any nasties into the FT from it?

The timber is merbu decking. Its been pissing down in melbourne - No run off into the tank. I have not oiled the timber just in case.

Thanks Wal. I was hoping to stock with fish this long week end. Looking to put rainbow trout in. I have about 950lt in the two tank. I was thinking of putting between 40 to 50 fingerlings in. All my reading of this site suggests that this should be ok. Happy to take advice.

Where would be the closest (best) place to go given I live bayside in Melbourne? And could I just rock up to the door to purchase?

What is the volume of your grow beds? That will determine how many fish you can stock.

That's good for 12 - 15 fish with a harvest size of 500 grams each.

It sounds like you are basing your stocking level on tank volume. I don't believe this site advocates stocking based on tank volume but rather filtration volume. And I don't think you have even 500L of filtration in your system... so 40-50 trout fingerling would be way too much..

Oh well looks like arbe beat me to it... anyways...

Thanks for the advice. Now where is the best place to purchase near Melbourne? And with the knowledge that summer is only 6 months away what size should I purchase?

System has not cycled.

Are you ok with the knowledge that any fish you add in the next 2 months will die of ammonia poisoning or nitrite poisoning?

How many fish are you willing to kill.

Sorry if I offend. But that is the reality. If you are happy to cycle with fish (which I am), go get 10 feeder goldfish.

The trout won't neceserally die if they are used to cyclethe system, I used trout in mine to cycle it and they survived ammonia readings that were oftje chart  BYAP also recommends cycling with whatever fish you are going to eat, just feed minimal amounts and test the water lots
