In the first few weeks of getting these Barra all the runts, fish that were being chased or had there face sucked { this happens when larger Barra grab runts by the face but can not swallow them) were removed to the larger tank. While most died from their injuries soon after being placed in the larger tank, some still survive.

I found this guy floating in the 3000l FT today. The FT water temp has come down to 13.5*c in the last few day so I'm thinking it has just succumb to the cold.

As you can see it has not grown much in the last eight months from the fingerling I first introduced & I was very surprised at seeing this one survive this long.

All the Barra in the Wintering tank are doing well. I'm monitoring the water parameters & doing water changes every couple of weeks as needed.
Fingers crossed they will last till the warmer months arrive.

The coral farm is my day job, that was why I started playing with the AP. When i get tiered of coral farming and need a break. I was going to shut it down for a good holiday, we don't get much time off. After a rest we will have a big insulated shed on a licenced aquaculture site :think:

Perhaps i might try a AP farm, we can grow trout or barra year round the way it is set up we can heat or cool the room cheaply. I have all the pumps etc as needed and even I can modify the LED lighting for plant growth. Possibly even build a green house to filter the water.

I Could not find a wide shot of the farm, but this shows what we do.

It's a pity you're in another state, I'd love to make a youtube video on what you guys are doing there. Looks incredible.

What is the lowest water temps that people have overwintered their barra at?
I have a few and they seem to be doing okay. Water has been down to 16C once or twice but normally sits just on 20C at the moment, even getting to 22-23C on sunnier days at the moment.
They are in a greenhouse in Perth, Western Australia. I am not using a heater.
Do people think they will be okay? They are still eating and none have died.
What are peoples experiences/opinions on this?

The optimum temperature for barramundi culture is 28°C, with acceptable growth rates between 26-30°C. Temperatures below this range will result in decreased metabolism and growth.

Night time/morning temps? Surely in Perth it's getting colder than 16 on some of these chilly nights. Keeping Barra in Perth over winter without a heater is just cruel and they will die eventually.

Yeah the low temps were measured in the early morning.
20C tonight. Praying for a sunny day tomorrow to boost temps.
I do not want the fish to die. How can I tell if they are going to die?
They are still eating well and no signs of any disease.

All still alive. Water temp this morning was 18.5
Last checked mid afternoon and was at 19.5
