Post subject:  Tadpoles and Barra together?

We have hundreds of tadpoles in the swimming pool with the barramundi, and were wondering if this was a problem.
Initially we thought the barra were eating the taddies as they weren't very hungry, but now the taddies are WAY too big! We have been moving lots out and into the ponds we have, as there were so many they made the water very dirty.
There are still lots left though, and we are not sure if they should all be removed or if the barra are quite happy to coexist with them. The barra are really shy, and still need their food soaked so it sinks to them....could the taddies be putting them off? At the moment the tadpoles seem to eat on the surface and the barra near the bottom.

Any ideas or experience with tadpoles and barramundi together?

Dare I say, you won't end up with too many frogs - as the barra are sure to nail the taddies in due course. As soon as the tads will fit between the barras jaws, they'll become dins. Then, once the barra have tasted live feeders, they will go off the pellets - until they get hungry enough to turn back to processed food - or they find more taddies.

Leave em in there. Tadpoles are bound to be loaded with protein and should jumpstart their summer growth.

I left 10 x 60mm comets in with 6 barra. A week later, 0 comets & 6 fat(ter) barra.

... And, as the ambient water temps rise, you'll be sure to see some more ferocious activity from the barra - in particular - predating the smaller tadpoles.

BT, I can't see the barra EVER being big enough to eat these tadpoles! They are huge, way too big to fit in a fish's mouth. They are developing front legs as well as back now so soon they will be frogs and also too big to be eaten in our barra's life time. So long as there is no harm with them all living together, we are very happy for them to be there (it is after all a very good sign of a healthy environment!).
I think you were right about the tadpoles being eaten by the barra early on though, because they certainly went off their food and are still not overly interested. We just keep persevering.....
thanks

That's not a problem - they would be top notch food for the barra !
