Not quite. Killed them along with all my other fish by planting toxic Hyacinth bulbs in the GB.
Until then they were very easy to keep, no trouble feeding on pellets and no worries about canabalism, territorial behaviour or close stocking. Slow growing, I had mine for about 8 months, Murray has had his for 2 years, so not a quick turnover fish. Taste wise they are the best tasting freshwater fish in Aus/Asia. Had lots from up north.

Cheers IanK

"Don't want them , would just like to were there from. Are they Aus"

They are the 'sister species' so to speak for the Murray Cod. In the Murray Darling Basin, most species seperated into specialist upland and lowand species thousands of years ago...with some overlap occurring in the middle. Trout cod historically were the mountainous version of the Murray cod and they pushed right up into alpine waters, far above where murray cod traditionally lived. In the ACT we still have a very small population of them left in our drinking water supply, some are even in the highest reaches of said water supply at nearly 1000 meters altitude.

I think the largest population in NSW is these days around wagga, which is traditional Murray Cod territory...the Trout Cod are doing wellish there though...but thats far from their 'ideal' habitat.

Their preference for cold water would make them an outstanding choice for Canberra aquaponicists....however getting hold of fingerlings is impossible as every one produced ends up back in the wild.....I have already tried and failed to get some.

Hopefully one day we will be able to buy them...id be super keen to have these...even keener for Macquarie Perch, which are the upland version of the Golden Perch....also terribly endangered, and reputably an outstanding table fish.
