could I suggest the depth of the GB is not sufficient? I like to see a depth of 300mm with media filling the 300mm height, not under. those with more exp welcome to correct me.

300mm deep is a good height CS but anything lower will still work well, FREO's beds are shallow and have worked well for some time. Mine are 400mm deep and then there is OBO's which are 1000mm deep, theres nothing set in concrete with GB depth.

Ahh ok.
Yeah that DIY site sure will get people into trouble with the fish stocking levels they claim. I am getting 0.5 ammonia constantly in my systems but the PH is in the low 6's. If my ph was 8+ I would be feeding very sparingly.

I don't think so. I think it's cheap stainless. Why?

I think stainless is okay, but maybe someone else more knowledgeable can chime in. I know galvanized is not good since it can poison the fish.

stainless is definitely ok, but a lot of "cheap stainless" is actually just plated metal (chrome or tin or something) not actually stainless. after a while it ends up rusting.

talking of cheap stainless. Used some stainless hose clamps on the air stone in the sump tank, 7 weeks on and unrecognisable with rust... Quality, quality quality...

A simple test for stainless steel is if it's true stainless steel, a magnet won't stick to it.
