Post subject:  Fish disease on scales, scales infected or something

Hello all,

This morning I found a one of my fish that looks like it has contracted a skin disease or something. The scales are covered in scabs and skin was coming off and falling. I removed this particular fish out of the fish tank, but not sure if this will start to affect other fish. Can anyone tell me what this is and if there is something I can do before it gets out of hand?

Here are some pictures of the infected fish.

Thanks for the help.

Not certain what it is but I would check the pH and the other water parameters to see what they are. Sometimes when these get out of whack the fish get stressed and are more prone to getting sick. If you aren't growing strawberries and you haven't already added salt then I'd salt the system to 1 part per thousand using sodium chloride. This helps the fish with stress and to build a slime coat.

I took your advice with the salt and all the fish are doing much better. The salt in the system was less than 0.2 ppt, and now I raised it to 1.5 ppt and all is well. Thanks
